What’s the highest temp  you recommend soaking or washing? I agitate by hand in the tub because my washer is too aggressive. I would like some More shrink.

      Maybe so. Maybe not

Well, I never went beyond 60° C (140° F) and you can get great results with this mode. Though, I remember some people on other threads went full 90° C (194° F) and could even beat the 21 oz into shrinkage submission.

Thank you. Yeah I might need to go up to 160F and see how it goes and maybe go up after that.

Why do you say it's too aggressive?  Do you have a top load?

Yes I have a top loader. It’s a low profile agitator but it’s streaked a pair of Tellason’s pretty badly. Not that I care because they are beaters that I used when I was pouring concrete. But I don’t want my NT’s creased and streaked with white marks

After about 60 wears I put mine in the wash at 40 degrees. Must say I like the fit better than before. Still a very nice relaxed fit, but the seat has shrunk up a bit and i'd say there has been 1/4 inch or so through the thighs and bottom opening. I'd guess that the measurements now on these is very close to the 21oz measurements.

You can try and pull it through with one of these….

I was too curious after this post so I ordered both. The needle pushed it through on the first try. Thanks @Giles, that’s a handy trick.

It all started with a leaf…

I'm giving in, and buying some 888 UHRs…  I'm 6'1 with relatively short legs, and need some help deciding what length to hem the 888s to.

                                    1955S measure: 30.4 inseam, 42.25 total length
                                    Levi's 541's measure: 30.7 inseam, 41.5 total length.

The Levi's length is perfect, while the 1955S could lose half an inch (despite being shorter in inseam, they make up for it with front rise).

It looks like these 888's should lose 1 or 2 inches when machine washed.

                                    Recommendations?  Cheers!!

Edit: I'll be wanting to wear these without a turn up, after they have shrunk.  The 1955S I have do have a turn up, and the measurement above doesn't take that extra fabric into consideration.

I need a final length of about 31” for jeans to fall and sit without a break. I don’t cuff unless I have to but don’t mind a little stacking (the wider the hem, the less stacking I want).

I had mine hemmed to 33.5 and after shrinkage and wear (combs can take up .5”). They are now around about how they should be with a little stacking and measure 31.5”.

It isn’t an exact science though. The absolute best solution if you are very particular about the end result is to get them hemmed after soaking/washing.

Thanks for the reply @neph93 . Interesting that you lost the full 2 inches, from a 33.5" starting point. As I tend to wear boots predominantly now, a little extra rather than a little bit short seems to be the side to hedge my bets towards.  Nice if you can wander around the house without treading on the hem or needing to cuff, though.

I also lost 2 inches and actually a little bit more. I found that this fabric shrinks a lot and actually didn't settle to its final measurements until the 3rd wash.
