It's ABSURDLY crushable… 11.2%, so it has a nice kick... Smooth, mild peat... Low carbo... Freakin love that beer...

Holy shit. A bunch of us celebrated my friend's recently completed hike from Mexico to Canada tonight. We most certainly didn't hold back. Lou Pepe Kriek is my all time favorite non-grape fruited beer.

Shared this '15 Goose Island Bourbon County with my hombrew/hard cider buddy.  14.3 abv and the most effervescent, then intense flavours.  A real treat to end a nasty weather week…

This is comfortably the most expensive bottle of beer I have ever bought. €53 for 650ml [emoji15]. It can’t possibly be worth the money…

Anxious to hear what you think of it. You’re paying a premium for the 3 years it spent in the barrel. Wish they told you what bourbon was in the barrel. When bourbon is aging in a barrel a certain amount will evaporate, which is called “The Angels Share” I’d be curious to know if that happened with this beer as well.

Speaking from experience, it certainly did!  Depending on the quality of the barrel and the time spent in barrel, the evaporation can be anywhere from just a bit to multiple gallons…

I’d definitely interested in trying that.  Keeping something in spirit barrels for that long is a risky move, but done right I could be really tasty!

I tried it when it was released here in September 2016 (one mouthful and I had to spit, it’s a long story and not what it sounds like [emoji1]) and bought it then. So it was cellared at my place for over a year, when I opened it yesterday.  It was much oakier when it was young with a harsh whisky bite. After a year the boozy heat was much rounder and longer in the mouth and the oakiness has dissipated somewhat. Otherwise there’s a touch of funk and the sort of vinous sweetness you associate with Barley Wine which contrasted beautifully with the whisky. It was great, without a doubt. The problem was it wasn’t quite as complex as you might think and ended up seeming like a bit of a one trick pony. Probably better shared or realeased in 330ml.

                                A few recent brews.
I've been on a big Hops & Grain kick as you can tell here.
Dispensary Series again, this time the IPA. Pretty solid, but I think I enjoyed the pale ale a bit more.

Haze County. Solid DIPA, but not really hazy considering the name?
It's more of a play on words, as H&G are opening another extension of their brewery in San Marcos just south of Austin which is in Hays County. But a solid beer nonetheless.

Pinthouse Pizza Just One Mohr. Enjoyable DIPA, PHP is making some of my favorite beer around here right now.
