Chevy and Ford 8's north of 40k with goodies. for a fuckin truck.
40k? That's not bad. I know guys driving pickups that stickered for over 60k. Texans love trucks, no matter how stupidly expensive. Or how little they'll be used as intended…
Texans do love their trucks, as do Arizonans.

but for you truck people, do look into a HSV Maloo…
Awww, that's such a cute little thing. How long before it grows up and becomes a truck?
-
unfortunately, in australia, US imported utes (trucks as you americans call it) are really expensive. the price of a f150/250 or dodge ram trucks are typically north of 100k.. even now with locally produced ford closing it's factory, wonder where they'll get the utes that we get here like the ranger and such..
What @louisbosco hasn't mentioned is that once an imported car's price goes over about $60K, the luxury car tax kicks in, and that adds 30% to the cost over that threshold. For a $100K truck, that'd be $10K extra. For something like a Ferrari (around $400K here), it's nearly $100K.
Then you've got the fact that Australia is a long way from anywhere, so shipping costs are factored in, and design rules (which are being phased out) specific to the local market. Manufacturers tend to price gouge, and cars are often supplied with all the options, in order to bump up the sticker price.
That said, the luxury car tax might be on the way out. Australia and Europe have a free trade agreement in the pipeline, and as it counts as an extra tariff, it could be repealed shortly as a part of the negotiations.

Was eyeballing some 666uhr on self edge. Was about to buy and they are no longer available. Someone in this forum bought the last two pair in 38. Oh well. Pissed but oh well.

That's my geezer version of "When I was a kid a loaf of bread was…" Pennsylvanians love trucks too , especially Chevy and Ford . Dodge, not so much, at least where I work they have a bad rep.
And I saw a loaf of bread for over $5. That's fucked up. -
Preach to these damn colonials G
Can't even mock youse for Brexit since-you know. ???

Truck?
This is what I want and at GBP9,999, I think it's a steal….

The costs of trucks are getting slightly ridiculous. Or maybe the Options that most trucks include are the issue.
Ive seen some “pickups” with stickers upwards of 75k. A friend of mine had to
Scour the country for a GMC with a standard bed, Bench seat and no cab. And his son in law works for GMC -
$1 in 1992 is equal to $1.75 today…
and I don't think that includes food or energy.

i'm pretty sure in the USA there's a lot of cars that are fit into that category.. considering a premium sedan, say a 320i is about 35k..

I wasn't really in the know on truck prices when my wife and I bought a car last December. When we were waiting for some paperwork to get done there was a brand new Tundra in the lobby….. Jaw just about hit the floor when I saw the price was just over $50K. I know the GMC/Ford/Dodge's can be $25K+ more which is insane to me. There are so many really good vehicle options for $75K, none of which are trucks.

I'm not really understanding why people are so shocked that trucks are expensive now. A truck is so much more than a car and you can do so much with it than a car like I don't know…..tow and haul all kinds of shit. Plus they have all of the luxuries now that cars do so that is a factor in the cost as well. IMO you get much more bang for your buck with a truck than you do spending big money on a car. I would rather spend 50k plus on a truck than a car, but I am a truck guy.
-
trucks were originally meant for work. cars for luxury. now a person is hard pressed to find a truck thats affordable and meant for work. cadillac pickup? denali pickup? 80k duely?
-
Right…but I still don't see how that translates into "it should be cheaper". Trucks have been pretty pricey for quite a while now, especially diesels. With a truck you're getting a lot of transmission and engine, heavier duty suspension, brakes, etc....just because something is meant for work doesn't mean it should be cheaper.
It's very similar to IH and workwear in general. It's clothing originally meant for work but it's not cheap because of the quality of the materials and construction. They can take a beating and last forever. Same principle IMO.
-
I don’t think it should be cheaper. I think the direction the market has taken has priced out most people. I think it should be simpler.

Ah, fair point. They have traditonally been simpler but for a good 10-15 years now they've been coming with more and more gadgets which I personally love.
You can still get some stripped down bare bones versions though.

yeah thats true. it most likely has to be a special order though. and thats for the less expensive model. the last truck i owned was a 2003 ford 150 king ranch. chestnut color. that was a sticker of 43k i got it for 39. was a full blown work truck for me. i beat the hell out of it for 10 year til my brother totaled it. that car truck today is 52K. i was crazy to buy it then but $$ was flowing in my business back then.
