IHJ-49 - Split Steer Modified Type III Jacket - Black or Brown
Modified Type III Jacket, made from soft split steer hide rough-out leather by FourSpeed, Japan, to Haraki's design. Modified with a slightly longer body than the original Levi's version, and with the addition of two external hand-warmer pockets, two internal snap fastened "gun" pockets and a cotton twill lining.

Please someone inform me as I'm ignorant to this, what is split steer? It looks like suede in the pictures to me. Is it similar to suede?

not sure if IH does anything differently, but it's essentially a way of creating thinner suede materials…
per google:
In very thick hides, the middle split can be separated into multiple layers until the thickness prevents further splitting. Split leather then has an artificial layer applied to the surface of the split and is embossed with a leather grain (bycast leather). Splits are also used to create suede. -
