My dad used to smack me in the back of head and say "Use your head for more than a hatrack son".

My favourite has to be a line trotted out about the Australian property market: "If young people didn't spend all their money on iPhones / holidays / beer / cars / Iron Heart denim, and were less entitled, they could afford to buy a house."
This neglects the fact that the average house in Sydney is now over a million dollars, or around seventeen times the median salary. As a comparison, new apartments in Tokyo were about eighteen times median salary in 1989, at the height of their bubble. OK, it's not a like-for-like comparison, but it gives an idea of the magnitude of the affordability problem. :o

growing up, every time i left the house, my dad would say:
"be good, and if you cant be good be careful, and if you cant be careful name it after me."
i still say it. RIP dad.
