Pretty sure they don't measure exactly the same way, which might explain the difference.

That said, I've had mixed experiences with Self Edge measurements.

Self Edge will be much easier and cheaper and faster to do an exchange with if you do get the wrong size. There is tons of info on how much FH denim shrinks, so you should be able to know before you wash it whether or not you have the correct size…

I've purchased about half a dozen pairs of jeans from RnH, including some 3002, the measurements of all have been spot on. Also Danny is extremely helpful and knows his gear. Perhaps drop him a line.

Thanks guys - @Danny RnH  and I have already figured it out and think we got it all squared away.

Issue is probably because of a different batch of 3012 that came out when SE originally got them.  The issue was SE's waist measure said it was "bigger" than RH, and since I know RH measures the IH way, it seemed weird since I can always count on SE's waist measures to be about .25 to 1.25 on their chart than when I measure the IH way.

Anyways, all squared away.  I had some 3005 for 3+ years that I loved, but alas, need something bigger now. Love the 3XXX denim, but yes - it's quite funky with washing and trying not to shrink the crap out of them.

Looking forward to trying these out in the future!

@Appfaff , if you just wash them on hot right up front they won't shrink any more after that, promise!

These are my 3005 back from Indigo Proof, really happy they fit exactly the same and I can't even feel the darning at all when I wear them.

It's been a while since I had some Flat Heads in rotation. Sadly, the more recent runs have been True to Tag size raw, so even a 38 in most sizes for me is out of the question for me.

After seeing that I can make a 37" waist work pre-stretch, I decided to give the 3012 a try as the Leg Opening on the 3005 is quite large in my size (heck, I had the size down in the 3005 and it was still large for me).

Anyways, here are some post wash pics. I opted for a machine wash in cool water and a hang dry followed by a warm iron.

                              Sizing:
                              Raw / Post Wash
                              Waist: 39 / 36.8
                              Frise: 12.25 / 11.5
                              BRise: 17.5 / 16
                              Thigh: 14 / 13.75
                              Knee: – / 10.18
                              Leg Opening: 8.6 / 8
                              Inseam: 35 / 32.3

                              Fit Pics:

Overall, it's an Odd Fit, but seems to works for me.

Thanks again to @Danny RnH from Rivet & Hide for the help with finding me the perfect pair.

                              Cheers,

@sabergirl - my bad, i edited the post above. It started out right at 14 and dropped to about 13.75.  In all actuality, I got almost the same measures post shrink on the 3012 as on my sz 38 UHR 666 after 4 washes - only difference is the leg opening on the 3012 is about 1.5 inch smaller.  Ive had them on at the office for about 3 hours so far and they are already stretched out to be comfy.

@Jordan23 - thanks dude - I so wanted the 633 (i love your 633 fit btw!) cut to work for me, but the 17oz version is simply not tapered enough in my size after a hem. @Danny RnH was kind enough to do some measurements and math for me to let me know what I would be looking at in terms of the taper amount.  I'm glad I went with these as they will work great with some driving Mocs and the new SS Burgundy IH Work Shirt this summer 🙂

Thanks for that. I really don't need any more jeans for the rotation, but I find the 3012 tempting because of the extreme taper with plenty of "wiggle room" on top. Also, I've never had any flat head denim, so I want to see what it's all about, someday.

@sabergirl - TFH has always been on of my "unicorn" companies as I came into the raw denim scene during what I call the "Sydney Lo" era lol. Sadly, every fit I've ever wanted has never been made in my size… even at my smallest I could never make a 3001 or 310 work for me and now I can't even make a 3009 or 1001 work. I had some 3005 for about 5 years and liked them very much, but they almost looked like a loose boot cut on me, so once I outgrew them, I shifted them to a better home.  The 3XXX denim really is something special, as the vertical falling and hairiness comes alive after the first soak. I'm on a recent "easy wear, easy care" kick just wearing and washing as often as I please, and the FH denim does a good job of making this easy of wearers. I like this fit as it's something completely different, especially for people in the 34+ waist groups.  I love 47' cuts, but in a sz 38, the leg does not look good with size 9.5US shoes/boots, so this is a nice compromise of high(er) rise, roomy thigh and good taper.

@Danny RnH - looking forward to how these progress!  Once it's too hot for my UHR I'll be wearing these a lot. Im very happy with them, thanks again!

Okay @Appfaff going way off topic here. How/when do you define the "Sydney Lo" era? I was around before it all blew up, dropped in and out for a while. I recall/have his book somewhere around here. Question is around why is whatever time period defined by Sydney Lo?
