@neph93 out of curiosity… what size is your waist, and what size did you go with? Hang in there, it will get better after a week. Your pair will most likely end up being your favorite pair ever. 🙂

It's a while since I've measured my actual waist size but the last time I did I was about 36,5". After a bit of injury, then illness the last six months I've put on a little weight so it may be an inch more now. That's mostly soft stuff though 😃 .

I went with the tagged 35 which measure 35,2". They were about the same actual measurements as my 666D which fit great (although that is a substantially thinner material). They are a little tight at the waist but I'm satisfied that'll stretch. The top of the thigh and top-block pinch a bit, but that's mostly the stiff, unforgiving material and maybe a little of the extra pounds I'm carrying. The material will soften and being happy in $400 worth of beautifully engineered, tough as nails, Japanese denim makes for top notch gym motivation.

Despite my complaining here I'm absolutely loving the ride after only the second day of wear, so yeah I can easily see these being my fave pair, which up until now have been some well worn 555-01. These remind me of the first pair of proper jeans I bought after understanding that there was life beyond the crap you buy in the high street. I've gotten so used to first 14oz denim from other brands, then the 21oz from IH, that I'd forgotten the pleasure of having to break something in. That's back big time 🙂

@neph93 I'm still at the point where every time I have to get my wallet out of my back pocket I have to anticipate the task because it's a bit of a struggle.  Trying to get it out when waiting in the bus line can be a bit awkward sometimes, but it's a small price to pay to sport these beauties.

Mine have softened up noticeably after about 8-10 days worth of cumulative wear, but they're still fairly rigid and nowhere near the pajama-like softness they reportedly develop with a lot of wear. The waist has stretched perfectly although the hips are still a bit tight. And @Filthy25ozJunkie is right, they quickly became my favorite pair, they will be yours as well.

Wearing my 21 oz Beatle Busters today because it's warmed up a bit this week. It's amazing how light and breezy these feel compared to the 666-XHS. Remember when the 21 oz denim seemed heavy?  😞

For my 25th birthday today, my mom surprised me with these 25oz monsters!!
These things are pretty intimidating for my first pair of IH. I tried them on and they seam to fit alright. Pretty tight in the top block and I feel like I'm swimming in a 25oz sea below my knees. Other than that I love them! It was bad lighting tonight but I'll post some fit pics tomorrow in the daylight if anyone is interested in seeing my fat ass wedged into these beasts..

Haha thanks xtc I gotta admit I'm pretty scared of them already. In the first few minutes of having them on I've already felt the anxiety of claustrophobia and I feel like they can and will literally consume my life. Once they break in I don't know if they'll ever leave my legs…

i feel like these look pretty goofy from the knee down.. am I wrong?
i guess I'm just more used to a narrower leg opening.
not sure why the pictures are sideway… I'm an idiot

Looks like they just need to be hemmed really. That would make the leg look slimmer.

Yeah you need to hem them a bit, and then just wear them enough so that the denim softens up and they fall more naturally around your ankles.

                                            Hi, Brock.

Just to echo the wisdom already laid down here, these do need hemming. It's a standard job to do on premium denim that only comes in one length. It's also a relatively simple job for a decent tailor/seamstress. Nothing to worry about.  The denim will also settle and soften and that will calm the indigo sea a bit. I would also consider a warm soak to eliminate shrinkage. Do this before hemming.

If you really feel the leg opening is too wide for you then tapering is a drastic step and a harder job. I believe that if you choose this, you should find a denim specialist for it. There's been a number of discussions on this forum about it, so recommendations should be easy to find.

That being said, heavily tailoring cuts is also something that's a bit controversial. Personally, I think that while hemming $400 jeans is normal, tapering them is too radical and drastic. Haraki-san and Giles work like artists on the designs and the result is their vision. Modifying the cut just means this is the wrong cut for you, and you're fucking with what was intended. Obviously they are your jeans and it's entirely up to you what you do with them. If it was me and I wasn't happy with the cut, I'd put them up for sale and re-invest the proceeds in the cut I wanted, before tapering what is intended to be a slim-straight cut.
