They are, actually.  Mike just really beat up on his pair.  I particularly like the boot fades; you can tell these are working jeans.

Thanks, and Chris is right on these. They tend to fade slow, but these have been beaten pretty hard and get washed almost weekly.

for anyone who has a pair of 38's – if you hemmed them what size did your hemmed opening become?

i'm interested in these, but by the time i hem them i wonder what the measurements would be of the opening?

anyone care to let me know their opening measurements and how many inches were taken off to get to this measurement?

The math is easy.

We measure the knee at 13" from crotch.  So the taper is in the remaining (in this case) 23.5".  There is 1/2" of taper in that 23.5".  So you will increase the hem opening by 0.5/23.5 for every inch you shorten the inseam…

Actually, it's after a previous job, and before what I'm doing today! Thanks for the compliments. I'm going full-on patch this time. The denim has worn so thin, hand darning won't hold, I don't think.
