Sounds like it went well @Megatron1505, so fingers crossed you get it. (Assuming you want to go there.)

Update guys, I didn't get the job. The feedback I got is that they chose someone with hands on experience of operating CNC machines, I could have argued that is not what they advertised for, and that it has absolutely zero benefit for the role of a Production Manager (so long as you know timings and capacity you don't need to know how to actually programme the damn things), but it would have been irrelevant.

Thank you all so much for your time and advice on this, I will keep applying for other positions as a change is needed after over 17 years. This whole exercise has shown what this thread was made for  🙂

You could have argued that, but it would likely have got you nowhere…

            Sorry.....

Mega, sounds like a good overall experience, treat this as a practice/dry run for the right job that will come along soon.

Nah man, I'm alright. If somethings not meant to be then there is no point in dwelling on it, something will come up, or I'll keep doing what I do. It's all good.

Mega, this is a victory in the end. You flexed muscles you haven't used in a while and will be ready next time you need to again.

                    Think it, be it.

                        Sorry to hear that @Megatron1505.

If it's any consolation, I've found that employers don't always have the right idea about what they need, and sometimes want the moon on a stick when it comes to skillset.

Good luck with the next one!

It sounds like they have a poor understanding of the position description, so that would just make your life more difficult down the road

They are a small operation, they chose a candidate who's skill set matches something which they didn't mention on the job description and who has never worked as a production manager before. Having said that, the company has never had a production manager before and I don't think they really understand what they actually needed. I probably dodged a bullet to be fair.

Investigators in my agency routinely run into this at small manufacturers. When you ask them why do they have a production or a qc manager that doesn't do what they're supposed to be doing, they say "well, our competition has a production manager, so we decided to get one too" or "we attended a seminar and they mentioned that we should have one"

Things usually go downhill from there

So yeah, you totally dodged a bullet
