      Lol awesome @Rocket -

Giles, it's a weightlifting belt - people wear them around their abdomen to make their core stronger and support their lower back when lifting weights - primarily the Power Lifts like Deadlfits and Squats or with the Olympic Lifts such as Cleans

        @Appfaff Thanks, though I prefer @rocket 's theory…..

Haha - rocket was definitely on point -  these leather belts are quite like a chastity belt - nothing gets through them

The IHB-04 is probably an adequate substitute. 😛

Does the giant latch and extra thickness really add functionality? Or is it mainly cool factor?

I'm guessing that the extra thickness prevents it from stretching, and adds strength. The buckle is probably to increase the security.

Bear in mind that this kit is used by powerlifters who shift some really serious weight. I used to train with a Newcastle club, and one of the big guys there could bench 250 kg, and squat or deadlift more….

Graeme you are correct about the thickness. I wanted to go with Inzer again cause their belts are made with a single piece of leather. It will not come apart over time unlike belts that are glued together

The lever makes it a lot easier to achieve the individuals ideal tightness without having to fumble with a single/double prong. Heck lot easier to take off after your top working set as well.

When you're reaching weights 90%+ of your one rep max I would recommend to use a belt

It is still smart to train beltless to still engage your core muscles for the main lifts though

if you are interested in competing, dont get the 13mm Inzer… anything over 10mm is banned in USAPL/IPF

bestbelts.net makes a great belt.  Don't really need the lever action.  Single prong belt will do.

i have the 2.5 in for deadlifting and the 4 in for squatting.  my torso is too short so the 4 in messes with my deadlift setup.

Elieko just released their leather Oly belt online too - 4.5 along the lumbar with a 2inch front - most of the team USA lifters are using them now - plus they came out with a blue suede which is pretty legit ha

If you've seen me then you know that competition isn't a concern :p However for my size I can squat a fair amount and just want a bit more lumbar support/ security. I'll check em out, thanks man!

I've always been impressed with those that can lift weights. I've tried and I could never stay motivated to keep it up. It just didn't do it for me. I used to run loads, about 7 miles 5 times a week. That all stopped when I got some issues with my foot. Long story short, I had 4 surgeries on my foot and my running days are over. That was very depressing for a long time. I gained a ton of weight during that period. Now the past year I've been swimming and love it. Lost close to 50 pounds. It's changed my life.  That's enough ranting for one day. Great thread by the way.

Not being able to run anymore is hard. I was really into my distance running a few years back and was hitting around 70 miles of running each week with some good race results to show for it from 10k up to marathon. Unfortunately, I developed an injury that totally threw me off that routine and it was very difficult to come back to it after all of the physio process.

The sport that filled its space is bouldering. Despite my hometown being one of the centres of climbing in the UK, I'd never tried it out until I moved out to HK but I fell in love immediately. Makes me think and use my body in a totally different way to running but it's totally addictive and has a good community of people around it too.

thats a drag about your injury.  Looks like we both found something to fill that running void.

Thanks @deanclean. I do miss doing those long runs on sun-dappled Sundays through woodland and riversides but the miles and miles on the roads in the dark of February mornings, not so much!
