      Right said about Fred

"I have a question: surely Luis Felipe Scolari could walk down to the Copacabana any time of the day, throw a stick and hit somebody who's a better striker than Fred? How does he get in this team? It's unfair to single him out on the basis of a performance in which almost all of his team-mates have been dreadful, but he's been consistently awful throughout this tournament but keeps getting picked"

Fred is quite possibly the worst player I have ever seen in a Brazil shirt, truly awful.

Before the game there was an interview with Ronaldo (the real Ronaldo), and I realised how much the game misses players like him, Zidane, Stoichkov, Hagi, Suker, Laudrup, Gascoigne, Klinnsman and Baggio.

A shocking outcome today in Brazil: Team Brazil managed to score a goal.

I am just stunned, still somewhat disbelieving, feeling sorry for the Brazilians, and apart from that, feeling just like quietly relishing the joy.

That was a route!  I'm not a true football fan, but I got the feeling I was witnessing history watching Brazil get trounced.  Anyone know what the record is for number of goals scored in a world cup game?

I woke up at 3:55 Hong Kong time to watch today's match. Well worth it - something truly historical has taken place. Germany gave us a masterclass in team football, it must be said. Brazil played like they didn't even know each other's names.

I heard on ESPN coverage that the largest margin of victory was 9. 10-1 Hungary over El Salvador, 1982 (not final). Most goals scored combined, 12.

Thanks, guys!  I still feel like this game was one for the record books.  Epic performance by Germany, for sure.

ha, thanks but I'm English and your condolences are several weeks late for my team!  that said, I was obviously very much into following the Brazil team here during the WC and today was just a surreal experience.  the streets in Sao Paulo are deathly quiet.  I am wondering what comes next…

Germany showed us The Beautiful Game. Brazil has been practicing, as I mentioned, a brand of football that I find very cheap and that demeans the game. It featured outstanding individual talent that was unmeshed and spent a lot of time play acting instead of playing.

I feel bad for the people of the nation, particularly since their government blew $14 billion it couldn't ethically afford on the Cup.

You could almost feel sorry for the brazilian Team regarding the highest expectations of the fans and the pressure going on there. Not to speak of said immense costs and all the other bad stuff that happened beforehand. Will be interesting to see the reactions when the shock has been realized.

I don't feel bad for anyone. It's a game - sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, no-one has a divine right to win and as a nation Brazil has to accept that and get over it. I say that as an England fan so I am used to abject misery and an endless string of abysmal displays. Bizarrely there was a huge amount of expectation that England would win things until comparatively recently, but that finally seems to have disappeared with this year's shot of reality. I like it when favourites lose, although Germany were hardly an underdog here! I have to support those perennial bridesmaids, the Dutch now.
