Waiting 'til it's the season again….LOL.

But let me point out the best looking ones as well: France tops 'em all. That dark blue, just a bit of white, and a very distinctive, modern letterhead for the names. Sophisticated!
Uruguay I quite like, and the yellow ones, where I have embarrassingly forgotten at the moment, which country sports them.

          All true.

I guess I don't think that it has to be a top 3 sport.  I would say that it's more relevant in the west than more established leagues like the NHL.  I'm not trying to convert non fans, but in the West it's a different sports culture than in other parts of the US.

I agree, mostly.  I think soccer definitely has the potential to be bigger than hockey, and it should be, since hockey is really a regional sport more than a national one.  I suspect that over a longer term, say 20+ years, it could be bigger than baseball, but that's really more of a gut feeling than anything solidly grounded in defensible facts.

And to get back from my derailment, I think the Italians have the best looking kits.  Much like the French, but a better overall appearance, IMO.

I kind of like how ballsy Coatia's jerseys are, but ultimately I really prefer a collared jersey. France takes it for me, and I like Greece's home jerseys too, a contrasted collar and sleeve rings, blue and white, and a cool logo. France's logo makes the bold claim that the French are a bunch of cocks! (I kid, I kid). Chile isn't bad either.

Backk off-topic, soccer and any other would-be mainstream American sports I think are likely to have to battle the emergence of lacrosse in the coming decades.

            Think it, be it.

I was in the miami airport during the US game, and I was honestly surprised at the loudness of cheering when they got a goal.

In Canada less youngsters are getting into ice hockey , mainly due the cost of equipment
and getting up early for ice time . Football ( not the N.American run&tackleball game )  in comparison has less costs and far easier access .

                    Best shirts in the tournament

                    1. Australia - Classic green and gold with a collar and solid 'v' insert (very 70s)
                    2. USA - red shirt with white and blue detailing, nice and simple and the colours look great, very bold, simple and childlike

I would never buy anything by Nike but their kit designs are much less garish than adidas.

IMO Japan's kit is pretty bad. Hot pink accents? Neon green? Nasty.

To me, the stand kits are France, Australia, USA,

Here's how GQ ranked all 32 jerseys.

Much like the discussion about the jerseys I seem to have started, plus of course that my liking the French ones seems to be shared by so many, while naturally tastes differ. Astonishingly many media have ranked/rated them as well, I've seen three different ones alone here in Germany, with very differing results, too.

But perhaps back to the game, Italy-Uruguay is the next thriller for me. So far the Latin American teams have shown very strong, if this holds here, we're in for the next big exit after Spain and England.

The Italians being arch enemies of us Germans in soccer, I should be glad about their elimination. However, they were wronged in this game. The red card against them was a stark exaggeration, and that hearty bite deserved nothing else but being sent off.
Oh well, Italy and England being the two from group D who have to leave now, that's nothing short of sensational.
It's the Latino teams who prevail, and it may well go this way in other groups and in the knock-out stage as well.
