The 2014 FIFA World Cup

A very strong team from Ghana just exposed some weaknesses in the German Nationalelf. Germany had a dangerously passive phase in the second half, allowing Ghana the lead. Kloses goal made the game a fair tie. In this shape Germany no longer is a favorite for the title.

What a weird, yet entertaining, World Cup it's been so far. Teams and matches who were expected to be exciting and set the pace have been fairly disappointing (Brazil, Argentina), supposed BIG nations have been awful (Spain, England), other fancied nations started well and then put in far from convincing performances (Holland, Germany) and teams who no-one really thought about appear to be making light work of things so far (Costa Rica, France).
I have no idea where this is all going, but I put £10 on France last week at 16/1 and they have not dropped to 10/1, which goes nicely with my 33/1 Colombia bet.

This is a perfect rundown of the games so far.. i would just like to add that Mexico (which is underrated IMO) played a great match against Brazil on Tuesday.

Too true Kiya, the keeper deservedly got lots of plaudits, but I also thought that the 35 year old Rapheal Marquez was absolutely immense.

Always for the US, I don't feel the hate for Ronaldo that some do but I genuinely like the USA and think that a successful US mens soccer (football) team would be good for the sport globally.
Plus I do find it funny when those prancing pretty boys take a whooping.
-
What did Ronaldo do to his face? Looks like an alien.
-
Portugal of course!

As the commentator on German TV put it: after pushing the car for way over 80 minutes, the engine suddenly jumped on. Belgium-Russia wasn't very fun to watch, and Belgium won with a lucky late goal.
As for Portugal-USA I am neutral. I find all this "pretty boy" talk rather offensive! May simply the better team win. -

THIS is so true. I honestly feel that this is the reason the sport hasn't grown here like it has elsewhere
The pretty boy part was just a joke dude. I would have made the same joke about Beckham a few years ago

Pfft, luckily Hazard woke from his slumber just in time … and merci Divock!

If Portugal play like they did against Germany I thin we could put a forum team together to have a good go at them.

^^ Unfortunately yes, I think they're in with a good shout of winning it. Portugal aren't as good as some people think and possibly rely too heavily on Ronaldo, who has had his (alliterative!) injury problems, whereas the US are a solid if unspectacular unit. Plus Portugal will be desperate to win this, having been tonked so heavily in the first game, which may just leave them a little exposed at the back, especially if they don't score early. In addition, this World Cup seems a great leveller - Ghana lose a close-fought encounter with USA and then (possibly unluckily) draw with Germany, who thrashed Portugal - you see what I mean? Anyway, I'm staying up late for this one…
