Random Rants

This rant is @ Australian Quarantine.
I purchased a Tom Bihn bag; the Brain Bag. Shipped super fast ETC. UPS called me up saying that Quarantine would not release it because it said "Brain", and as such needed to know the composition. Telling them it was a bag (as stated on the box) didn't count as 'the system' flags all things that say Brain.
Ended up paying a $75 fee due to the word brain being on the packaging slip. That's about 70% of the cost of the bag! Better be freaking good!
-
You should write Tom Bihn an email about that. It seems that they might want to rethink the wording on their packing slips and customs forms. Surely you aren't the only customer that's going to have this experience. I'm sure they'd rather not make their customers have to deal with that headache.
-
Puts me in mind of my (godawful!!!) experiences with German Customs, which, alas, could not be resolved so easily. Good luck with coping with your quarantine system…..and you know what to tell the seller when you'll buy some real brain next time.....

With the intense travel schedule I just had and all of the germs I was exposed to, it was inevitable that I would catch a cold. Well, I did. To make matters worse, I managed to either break or really bruise a rib by leaning over a seat-back in a van, and lifting a heavy briefcase and using my chest as a fulcrum to leverage the bag from the floor behind the seat. Needless to say, sneezing, coughing, and breathing are extremely painful.

To whomever placed $1400 on two transactions with a ticket broker on my card: I hope you were dumb enough to supply an address for those tickets, cos the Amex fraud department is all over it. Failing that, I hope you catch fire while getting raped by a gorilla.

Having been the victim of identity fraud myself, I feel your pain. Hopefully, you aren't on the hook for anything.
-
Luckily Amex has always had my back. I checked other cards as well and I think I'm ok unless a broader ID theft conspiracy is in play. We'll see!

It's great you keep such a close eye on your accounts. It's really important these days.
I was overseas last week, and had a mysterious charge from Millington, TN. Needless to say, I canceled my card immediately. It's really too bad though, as I just memorized the number.
-
Exactly. Me too. Feck!
-
I'm a little concerned that these shady-ass transactions went through, but I know that they will handle they biz. And I get my fresh card tomorrow.
-
That is a right cock punch fiscally speaking McLC .Been a victim myself on both Visa and MC . Easy to sort since
they can see your history of transactions and then send you a form to swear an affidavit with on the false charges.Whenever I travel either to another province/state or to another continent - I phone both
my two card companies to inform the place and dates of travel . Saves a headache later trying to phone
in different time zones .If you ever get scammed on your debit card , that is a major pain . You need to go down
to your bank and do a lot of paperwork . I have thought about a pre-loaded credit card for
only online purchases .Hope your sorted out fast McLC .
Cheers

Thanks my man–I feel like it will be fine and appreciate the condolences and words of wisdom.

Jock,
I was one of the people swooped up in the Target mess a few months back. Before major outlets broke the story, my credit union had killed every card of theirs that was linked, was in the process of contacting every effected customer and had new cards issued on site at the local branch same day you went in.
I have also had charges reversed on the spot when they came from fraudulent means with little more than a teller looking at the charge and my account history.
Point being, while it took some searching, there are always better options when one is dealing with banks.

JDL …i'm one of those despicable bstds the credit card companies hate ....never
carry a balance .Never had the debit card trouble (rarely use mine ) , mate of mine got jimmied on his. Since the funds
come right out of your account , it's a lot more work convincing the bank it wasn't you
with drawing $671 at 4 am on such and such time. Can be fixed , but just a huge amount of effort . -
Just over a year ago my wife and I decided we were going to live a credit less life, we ditched all our credit cards, paid off a long term loan we had and we allocate a portion of our wages each month to close out our mortgage 10 years early. It's made things hard at times, no more loose purchases, foreign travel is a pain in the ass when you only have cash, the reduction in overtime hours available at work really pinched our pockets, and anything we need around the house we have to save for, but we genuinely like it and feel better about ourselves for doing it. We checked out of the credit society by choice, it's not for everyone but after going through what Mac is going through three times I thought "fuck that" and became a cash only guy.
Maybe that should have been a random announcement…..
