just ordered tickets for my girlfriend and i to see stephen malkmus on april 7th in calgary. i am pumped as i used to live in toronto, and could see shows every week. ive been living in the mountains for the last 5 years though and with calgary being the closest city at 3 hours away, and them not getting nearly as many good shows as toronto, vancouver or montreal it has been tough.

come on the 4 minute mile is amazing

"4 Minute Mile" is a great album too. Somehow it didn't make my drunken list of 11 from the 90s haha. GUK were very good live back in the day, but they never impressed me as much as Braid or the Promise Ring. TPR/Texas is the Reason tour around the time of "30 Degrees Everywhere" ('96) was easily the best show I've ever seen.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but it's Friday night and I've been drinking… Here's a few of my favorites from the 90s:

The Promise Ring “30 degrees everywhere”
Dillinger Four “Midwestern Songs of the Americas”
                Jawbreaker “24 Hour Revenge Therapy”
                Kid Dynamite (s/t)
                Braid “Frame and Canvas”
                Lifetime “Hello Bastards”
                Slint “Spiderland”
Texas is the Reason “Do You Know Who You Are?”
                Stereolab “Emperor Tomato Ketchup”
                Lush “Spooky”
Twelve Hour Turn "The Victory of Flight"

I saw get up kids open for JEW in early '97 Woodson had just came out. Antarctica (Eric Richter from Christy Front Drive) was the opening act. My friend put the show on we used to be close with Jim Adkins. GUK blew the doors off the stage and JEW almost got booed off the crowd started chanting for GUK to come back out. Eric Richter came out and sang with JEW when they played "Digits" overall it was a great night.

                  😉

Recently though more than anyone else I find myself listening to joey bada$$

If you have an hour his 1999 mixtape is worthwhile listening if you are unfamiliar
