CNN news…..... Man gets caught in avalanche in gunnison valley snowmobiling (aka crested butte area, and some of the most unruly weather in the US). Dude could have easily died. Fist thing out of his mouth..... I think ill take an avy 1 course now.....uhhhh..... Dude, I live in ohio, and I've taken avy classes. If your going to be in the back country driving 700 pound sleds around, It would be wise of you to know what you are Doing!!!! This is why people die in avalanches. Because they are stupid!!!!!

A lot of people were breathing a big sigh of relief this week as the west finally started getting dumped on. Unfortunately a winter of blistering cold temperatures and heavy wind with no snow has created a very unstable base, which reacts poorly when you add over 1m of snow with a high water density on top of it. In the last few days, there have been many incidents, including a snowmobiler who was swept over a 1000ft cliff band in an avalanche and survived with no injuries (wtf). And wade Galloway, a tireless champion of split boarding, and the organizer of the extremely successful Canuck split fest in Rogers pass, which has raised avalanche awareness and funds for the canadian avalanche centre for the last 4 years. Wade passed away in an avalanche in Waterton national park on February 15. This photo is from orca bowl in fernie bc. A very popular and typically fairly safe area for ski touring. The slabs ripped out on fairly mellow slopes in typically well supported terrain. There was another avalanche yesterday that has not been properly photographed yet. It was classified as a size 4 (big enough to bury a small village) and it took out 200yr old old growth cedar, and ran to the bottom of the valley, where it it just started chugging up the other side before coming to rest. Nature is fucking petrifying.
For the uniniated eye, there are two main slides in this photo, the big centre one, and if you look carefully, from the right side of the picture, you can see the fracture line that runs halfway out the ridge line

If it was on the tgr page it'd be Jeremy for sure, from the looks of the mountain, probably from the Himalayas section of the upcoming higher film
