Not to get too deep, but tax rates and import fees set on certain products via free trade agreements are your culprit, no doubt. The only thing one can ferret from nation to nation anymore is currencies, and you better have enough to make it worth the trouble.

Bourbon: because living in Kentucky just makes you want to drink

Gotta say, really enjoying the Buffalo Trace that Mclain suggested. Pretty smooth, kinda reminds me of some straight sour mash without the flashbacks. For a guy that likes bourbon neat and clean, it's not at all bad. Thanks again brother.

My pleasure, I am very happy to hear it. I am a huge Buffalo Trace Distillery fan and advocate. If you want to try a nice rye, if you see Sazerac around it's brilliant. It was hard to find for a while but should be available a bit more readily at a reasonable price point. It is a 6 year aged rye that is quite classic, spicy and very nice.

In fact, the Sazerac Company of New Orleans owns Buffalo Trace. Trace also makes a number of "antique collection" bourbons and ryes that are among the best available. They also are responsible for all the famed Pappy Van Winkle line. Best whiskey distillery by far in the US IMO.

The good thing about Buffalo Trace is that it's so damn delicious but it doesn't break the bank. It's usually in the same price range as Maker's Mark and a better spirit IMO.

          Have a look: https://www.buffalotracedistillery.com/brands/buffalo-trace

Every damn one of those brands is excellent.

          Think it, be it.

They're new on the block and have an interesting story and method. Very clean. Best enjoyed neat.

They're only distributed in a few states, right now, but definitely worth the purchase if you stumble across it.

                Sean,

Will keep an eye peeled. I like bourbon, so much that if it's liquor we're drinking, that's what I'll have regardless. I do like a bit of variety though, so if I see it….

I'm curious to hear an opinion from a forum member. My friends are idiots and will drink anything (you know what they say about the company you keep).

Well, given the longstanding distilling tradition in the NC mountains, it's gotta be good.

It also says that it's distilled from malted barley. So we're looking at more of a Scotch than a bourbon style here I think. This hypothesis is also supported by the missing "e" in "whisky."

I saw this at my local packie. I'm not a Scotch drinker so this didn't appeal to me, but it certainly piqued my interest.

I generally don't buy from independent bottlers personally. Perhaps a narrow minded hangup, but I go to the source, if they didn't distill it, I'm not interested. Same with scotch and even Irish whiskey.
