Just got back into fishing last year - just tiddlers off the local canal.

Tried a local river and had quite a nice surprise!

I caught my first chub about a month ago

Since then I've joined the local club, whos rivers 15mins walk away, so I'm hoping to get some larger chub and barbel before the close season.

I'm addicted!

We went out Chubbing and Barbeling today.

…to a backwater as the rivers are flooded.

This tiny little stream has seen Barbel to 19lb in the last year or so.

My mate managed a 6lb bream and I got a small bream and a small perch.

Got to brush up my barbus tactics, more than a touch I think.

I did it. Probably won't do it again but glad I ticked it off my list.

I'll admit that I don't understand the enthusiasm. There's no casting and you basically just sit around hoping for a nibble. People are like "oh it's fun, you just listen to music and drink." I say the same thing about bars and my house.

my brother asked me to go ice fishing with him last week
2 reasons i said no
1. i dont have the gear, snow suite, boots any of it
2. siting in a hut freezing cold to catch half frozen slow moving fish that have no fight in them doesn't do it for me

You can do it with as little or as much discomfort as you want. Some ice fishing cabins are heated and have electricity, TV, etc. I think I'd prefer to suffer.

From two winters ago now. Not keen enough to get out in the winter time anymore, but the river here has some of the best cut throat fishing you could ask for and gets a ton of summertime visitors from around the world

My barbelling sessions have resulted in more chub, but I'm getting lots of advice from the members on the club stretch of river, so hopefully things will change soon

In about a week I go Bonefishing for a week in Andros, Bahamas.

4 weeks ago I set myself the goal of tying at least 2 flies per day between than and when I left.  I'm just about on target:

It was Ben last time.  He can't come this time as he has just started a new business.  I was let down at the last moment by another friend, so I was going to cancel, but Paula gave me shit and basically told me that I needed to go and get a break, because the next few months could be just as shitty for me as it will be for her.  I would have liked P to come, but a) she's not meant to travel, b) If she could, she'd be uninsurable, c) there is nothing (and I mean nothing) to do where I go, except fish.  So I have a good friend flying down from Kentucky for 3 of the 6 days I am there…..
