Oboy opinions!  🙂  "I" like option 3 and if you want the full Hollows treatment you might consider the 430 mini-lug. But aesthetically you won't see a difference from the 700 soles.

I have gone for 1/4" lower on my BH and SD, and imo it's still a lot of heel, plenty really. And I have a soft toe SJ incoming with the lowered heel and 100 lug.  Part of the reason I went for the 1/4" lower when I first got into this game was my own height, 6'6" - but after seeing it live I think I like it in any case.  Here is my soft toe BH with 1/4" lowered heel - very similar if not same as Hollows Leather.

Such a sharp boot. Love the natty cxl. For mine, I'm going between that and distressed roughout, tho will probably go with the latter. Those must be 430 soles then?

At 6'6" I could see why you'd do a wee lower heel 🙂

Yep, mine are 430 soles.  Here are some great pics of a roughout BH with either the 700 or 430 - they look the same from profile… http://www.ultrasoundboots.com/productDetail.php?lang=EN&id=63  really sharp with that leather imo.

not surprised! i've scrolled through their site so many times I about have it memorized… it would be nice to have a full set of white's leather samples posted somewhere - East West has a good selection but not many of the roughouts.

Never thought much of the lowered heel, but bluegrass’s boots are changing my mind… They have a nice stance and also a relatively sleek look. Thanks for sharing them 🙂

I like high heels too 😉 on me and the lady 😉 🙂

I had even increased the resoled heel on my viberg engineer a bit, Al Pacino style hehe

Love the standard cuban heel on my semi dress a lot, big comfort for walking

                      Imho

                      Everybody his/her own 🙂

                      Beautiful boots bluegrass

                      Cheers,

I agree David, I was thinking more practically that a lowered heel kind of negates the arch ease system by distributing pressure differently across the foot. Aesthetically though absolutely each to their own.

                            Good point, Mega.

I'd be very interested to hear more from owners of both heel heights as I only have experience with the standard ones.

I guess it depends on how important the arch eases to you, I have a very high instep so it's extremely important to me.

I hear ya, tigerpac. Thx for your two cents. I too love whites, and want to capture the essence of em. By no means am I trying to make these into Trickers or Alden's 😉 that said, the soft toe really changes the look IMO and im just not totally sure if the regular heel hight would look right…

Ok, just another opinion: Tbh I don´t really buy into their anatomical derivation of the arch ease. It´a comfy and well (hand-)built boot and I don´t doubt that its design helps people being on their feet for a large amount of time. Still, designed by millions of years of evolution the natural standing and walking position of feet is barefeet and flat, not on heels. Whites offer their boots in three different heel-heights, why would they do so if two of them have detrimental effects on their design? Don´t overthink it and go for the one you like best. If you are looking for the essential Whites look it is the Standard heel.

Nevertheless, for people with a high instep (like me) the Arch Ease system gives a comfort like no other, I have read the opposite from people with flat feet. The height of the instep dictates how pressure is distributed over the sole of the foot, and where it is distributed, it is not enough to say that millions of years of evolution dictates the natural standing position as everyone stands differently, distributes their weight differently, and has a variance of instep height. The point would be sound if everyones feet were the same, but in fact evolution dictates the exact opposite.

Also, just to add, that the lowered heel should only have a detrimental effect if you require the arch ease to assist your instep and distribute your weight, if you do not and find the comfort acceptable and the aesthetic more appealing then have at it.

My argument was more pointed at White´s assumption that the high heel reflects a more natural state of the foot because it looks the same hanging down relaxed.
Of course all feet are different as nobody genetically is the same but they all share the same constructional adaption to be used barefoot. Nearly all problems people have with their feet come from wearing shoes since childhood (resulting in deformations, strains on or contractions of filaments, muscular disbalances etc) not of "having" bad feet. And good shoes can certainly help in that situation but imho there is nothing like a supernatural foot position.
