It looks to me like the first one is functional and the second is just stitching in terms of the gusset. Or am I misreading you here?
You are so right about how the SG weave is. I'm not sure what they do but it doesn't have as soft a hand on the outside, seems like a tighter weave and as you mention less horizontal pattern, perhaps due to this tightness. One thing I can say is that it seems nearly impervious to gusts of wind.
 -
That's true. I was saying that the second difference was the functional gusset on the SG vs the BR just being stitched.

I've got the Black William Gibson Cap on the way. Can't get a better cap for $50 that's for sure.
Ordered the Watch cap from SE. Where did you get that beauty for $50?

Can't remember which Rakuten store exactly but here's an example.

There's probably 10-20 Buzz sellers on Rakuten Global. With shipping it's probably $65 by itself. But I ordered with a couple of things so the shipping evened out. Self Edge marks them up 100% or more.
Even Gentry has some for about $40 cheaper than Self Edge.

N1 incoming!

Nice Finn, I like how the gusset overlock stitching crosses over like that.
Anesthetist, pics or it didn't happen! I look forward to seeing that beaut.

This is the version I bought:
Charlie @ historypreservation said there was this version, a "seawash" version (also the treated alpaca) which was heavier and aged, and the Gibson version.
…and my jacket comes today!
 -
Ok so these pics aren't the greatest….yeah they pretty much suck but you get the idea. This jacket is pretty awesome. It's warm and roomy but not too bulky.

 -
Sweet jacket! Looks really warm.
 -
what size did you get? M or L?
 -
This the large. For reference I am 6"2 and 168lb. I could have probably worn a medium but I wanted a comfortable fit that I could layer with.

I'm 6'2" about 190lb. For me the medium fit very well and I could still get layers on underneath it. But your photos look great.
