Forgot to check the Stoke score until now… Just checked the score, wish I could forget again 😞

        @zwer:

The way Arsenal is playing is sublime. Ramsey continues to score for fun. 7 point lead at the top of the table.

We still aren't good enough to win a cup, but the League is within reach.

Anyone is good enough to win a cup dude, just down to how you perform on the day. The league never lies, whoever sits on the top of the heap at the end of the season is rightly the best team, and currently I think Arsenal are the best team.

Ramsey has been an absolute revelation this season, and I don't think that anyone (including Wenger) saw it coming.

I feel your pain MorP, the Toon are currently in a purple patch but I have had MANY afternoons like you describe here.

Colleague at work as he was leaving: "Stoke won 3-2". "You're joking??" "No, they scored in the last minute."

Checked my phone… Blimey... That's the 2nd time that Stoke has beaten Chelsea since 1975.

So today has been improved somewhat :). Watch it all go wrong next week.

And much glee was had by the non-United fans.

Some great results over the weekend (Mega, MP)! And the Canaries got an excellent away win too. Really enjoying watching Utd struggle, Europa League for them next season would be hilarious.

They will struggle to get the Europa league place, I think that the top 7 as it stands now will be the top 7 at the end, only the order might change. And honestly I think that every one of those 7 teams (Southampton are a bit of an anomaly) are currently much better than Man U.

Manchester United are currently like a run down stately home, obviously people can see how grand they once were but to restore them to their former glory is going to take a lot of time and even more money. I'm not convinced that the current owners will want to invest what is required either.

On their current form I reckon you could be right, even if they typically finish very strong they're already falling too far behind. Even if they did wanna spend any money it could be way too late come the transfer window.

I agree with mega, even as a united fan, firstly I was disappointed at the successer to the gaffer. But it's really hard to see any European competition at all given Moyes tinkering bullshit.

Louis, I think Sir Alex knew that the team was on the decline last year. Even though they won the title at a canter the team lacks the quality of previous years and there is much money needed to be spent. I think SAF won the title for them last year, simply because he was the greatest manager there has ever been (yes, I can admit that), but knowing that lack of investment was going to be a problem he chose a great time to retire.

On Moyes, I think he's a good manager but I worry that he found his level at Everton and that is as good as he is ever going to be, time will tell. When you lose the guy who is the absolute best there has ever been then anyone else will be an inevitable step down.

United were looking for continuity, ie a natural heir to Ferguson (or in reality, a second rate version) when perhaps they should have been brave enough to realise that Ferguson was a one-off and a change of direction was required.

Unless they believe that he wasn't a one off, but was put in that position by the environment in which he worked, in which case Moyes seems the perfect choice for continuity. I don't believe that but maybe the powers at Man Utd (including Fergie) did.

SAF was the best there ever was for man utd. it's hard to see anyone overthrow his as the best manager of the club. maybe MU feels that in terms of character, moyes is the perfect choice. however his tactics or player selection will never be as good. no doubt the team is in decline and a overhaul is greatly needed.

perhaps if mourinho gets sacked again as chelsea manager, he could take over moyes 😛

but still i feel like teams like arsenal or liverpool(when they change managers), this is the interim period for MU, very much like before SAF stepped in.

I'm shocked - despite going out of the Capital One cup on Wednesday (both Manchester teams should get through the next round), Stoke won at home against Villa today. And the only two Aston Villa supporters (that I know) are in work tomorrow :). Looks like we could manage mid-table again this season…

And Pulis seems to working wonders with Palace...

Theo Walcott is out of the world cup because of "a knee injury".

As I just said to Mme B, England will miss him about as much as if I was not able to go to Brazil in 2014.

We have both scored nothing in previous attempts.....

Any thoughts on the Premier League going down the stretch? My nephew and brother-in-law are staunch Liverpoolians and haters of Man City. I'm pulling for Arsenal on the strength of the simple fact that my father brought me an Arsenal jersey home from a trip to England once.

At least our cricketers have set the bar nice and low. Even if we went out at the group stages with a draw and two losses it'll still be a better performance than what happened in the Ashes. Walcott missing isn't going to make that much difference, even if his finishing has been slightly better recently.

It's great that the PL is still nice and tight but it is this time of year that you start to get an idea of who is really gonna maintain their challenge. Arsenal and Liverpool need to avoid injuries to their key players to keep up with Chelsea and Citeh, although the KO stages of the Champs League can also put a strain on the squad (not that I can see Citeh or Arsenal going any further….).
