They seem to now be calling what used to be vintage FQHH tumbled FQHH. Basically the leather gets put on a big dryer like machine and 'tumbled' at Horween, producing a softer more pliable leather that has a more broken in look and feel to it. If you're happy to beat the shit out of your jacket just by wearing it you'll eventually get to a similar end point I think.

Why do IH shirts say to wear as long as possible w/o washing?  While I, slob that I am, have absolutely no problem embracing this practice, I have no idea what I hope to gain by doing this with a flannel shirt.  Why?

colonelclegg: if you threw up on them just wash them dude, especially if your not sure if its your puke…......

No idea, never bothered to question H about it.  But I follow the, "if it's dirty or smells, it's about time I washed it" principle….

My theory is that it's part of the Haraki ethos of durability and having clothes last forever and evolve slowly. Washing can be stressful to those causes.

                                      Think it, be it.

I think he originally intended to stamp that on his jeans/ western shirt. God knows how it ended on flannels o_O

I have decided to only apply the wash when needed technique to my jeans. don't really feel i need super awesome combs and shit on my shirts. Shirt gets dirty or smells, I wash it.

I'll second Mclain. I wash my shirts, just like my jeans, when needed. Keep in mind, H's version of wait as long as possible before washing is a lot different than our (shitty) western idea of waiting as long as possible.

I wash my flannels once or twice a year. No arbitrary schedule - just based on need. It really prevents a lot of stress/wear that goes along with washing.
