I live in a tiny (450sqft) apartment on the second floor of an old house. THe only thermostat is in the apartment below us….but the tenant is rarely there. He's been gone for a few days, and last night it snowed. The high today is 30 F and tomorrow it'll be colder. That fucker didn't have the heat on.
It's cold as hell in here.

Man my flat is so enormeously easy to heat… It's at a constant 18C° (64.4F) and 16 during the night (60.8). The first floor will be used as a rehabilititation centre come Nov 27th... I'm betting I'll be heating even less... Can't wait for my first annual bill to come from the energy provider...

I was not 100% happy with the blocked heel from my White´s boots, so I went to a cobbler in my hometown. He is a "pro" for Alden´s and stuff like that.
I showed him my White´s and he called them "billiger Dreck/ cheap crap", because you can see the welt on the sole and other stuff like that. He asked me if I would know a commando sole and I said something like "Yes, they look similar to my soles (Vibram 430), but it´s a half composition sole" He replied "Kid you don´t know anything" and came back with a commando sole and told me how to glue them on a shoe and how much he likes Alden and how great they are.
Some of you know me and met me, I am more or less a quiet, shy and relaxed dude, but he was so cocky and arrogant, I wanted to jump behind the counter and smash his motherfeckin face.
Now I love my blocked heel and hate feckin Alden´s.
He was a total dickhead.

The cobbler I use is a total fucking dick but I like him anyway. And he's a damn genius. Definitely not a guy I would recommend to anyone with a shred of sensitivity or a tendency to take things personally. But he can work magic on a pair of boots/shoes, even leather garments. And his prices are eminently reasonable.

My experience with bootmakers is that dickish behavior is the norm, not the exception. Most of the good ones seem to be arrogant, condescending and insulting toward the product of others.

i wouldnt say just cobblers
seems to be a large amount of any field where someone is making something artistic or high end
not saying all but the two usually go hand in hand -
if you dealt with feet & things that held feet all day you would be a bit cranky too, just think of Al Bundy. . .
*sorry for the yanky ref, but just couldn't waste it.

I used to sell shoes eons ago, and I will say that Al was often right about the job. There were few things I hated more than summer sandal season. Bare feet are ugly.

as an adult i appreciate Al Bundy sooo much more than i did as a kid.

it's a crappy show, kind of like Good Times, Sanford & Son, All in the Family, The Jeffersons. . .I could go on but I think you get it.
think about it, Al hated his job (just like me), he wanted great things for his son but bud was you know (no comment from me), he loved his daughter but she was too pretty & too dim for her own good (too early to tell) & he loved his wife but they were 2gether so long (just like me) he always talked shit but peg was his one & only(just like me)
think folks like things they can draw ref to, don't want to over think it but you know. oh & i'm a mid70s baby so my child hood was kind of crazy seeing the decline of the US & the rise of drug culture & that kind of stuff to another level.
