      Any way it can be spec'd so as that there are only two speed hooks on each side? (I find any more to be a great annoyance.)

      Not in the market for hiking boots, but this has always bothered me about Viberg hikers and I couldn't agree more with Tres, two on each side at the top of the boot.  A collab could be a good chance to offer an alternative to their weird lacing; you don't need that many speed hooks, especially if you use D-rings, you have just as good of a pulley action with those and they are easier to deal with.

      EDIT: I didn't realize they have a second model.  It doesn't look as classic and cool as the 66, but it uses more D-rings: http://www.workboot.com/hiking-boots/viberg-68-pachena-bay.html

      @Giles:

      Nice improvement Tres.  See what we can do….

      The top D ring on the 66 is a bit confusing, as well. Were you thinking of going with a EEE width? Might make for a sizing nightmare.

          So, what were you thinking 4 pairs D rings and then 2 pairs of speed hooks?

            Yeah, and sequentially; mixing them up like they have for the 66 is yet another odd configuration. The more I think of it, the more I like the make up for the 68–just with two pairs of speed hooks. ( I wasn't aware that model came with insulation as well.)

            Has anyone else found that with the insulated tongue-flap on the 66, it's near impossible to tighten the laces?

                Speed hooks make sense for portions of the boot that need to be as open as possible to fit your foot into the boot. So with the 68, notice the ankle laces have them. Ankle and shin fasteners to me are good candidates for speed hooks, and foot fasteners for d-rings. Just my opinion.

                Think it, be it.

                    Did someone in here once say they had a pair sent back to Viberg to be shrunk? I ask because it's looking like I'm going to lose $400-$450 on my Oxfords–which is so bad it's comical--and I'd like to know if, for a proper fee, I can just get them altered to fit. Any help would be appreciated.

                        It should be possible for them to be re-lasted.  Basically, they take the sole off, put the smaller size last in the boots, trim it down, then reattach the soles.  I've had it done before, though not by Viberg.  Should cost around $150, but that's a very rough estimate.

                          I read on superfuture about boots being relasted to a smaller size by Raul at Eddies's in LA. Maybe give him a call. He's really helpful and easy to deal with.

                              Speaking of horsehides, I've decided to sell this pair of nearly new black HH service boots, Viberg size 10, on the 310 last:

                                          from this pic i'd say size down 0.5 on your next boot (depends on the last used as well though!)…
