            Still working on subtlety?

              I've mastered that.

              Nothing says "subtlety" like spinners.

              Think it, be it.

The Astron is a very large watch.  How do you like it so far?

I like my watches either traditional or really high tech. Being the first solar watch with GPS, it fits the bill nicely. It is flawlessly accurate when it can receive its signal and has plenty of buttons to press 🙂 The finish is good, probably along the lines of the Brightz line but not as good as my Grand Seiko. It is unfortunately very large but it is so for a reason (antenna) and is easy to wear on the silicone strap. All in all I'm liking it.

Doesn't wear that different from my old Panerai or JSAR. This is a better shot of its size.

Anesthetist, nice timepiece.  The technology involved is remarkable and as you say has its own niche selling points when compared with mechanical offerings.

I am a sucker for mechanical movements but still smile to myself thinking that a quartz watch is going to be more accurate than any mechanical watch.

I have an Omega X-33 as a working watch and it keeps time really well compared with my other mechanical watches.  The Astron must take that accuracy to whole new level.

I like your colour choice as well, the blue dial accents complement the blue denim and shirt nicely.

Moving ever so slightly off topic here:

Do any of you have any experience with automated watch winders for mechanical watches?  It is something I am thinking about buying for the small number of pieces I own.  Working away from home it is a bit tedious coming back to have to wind and set them all.

I believe you can get battery operated winders.  Battery operated for me would be good as the watches are normally kept in the house safe.

I am looking for a four watch and a single watch winder.

                        Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I bought a cheap no-name one off eBay that works ok.  The only advice I can give would be to try and find one that holds the watch as close to vertical as possible.  Mine has the winders at about a 30 degree angle and on some of my watches that isn't enough to move the rotor.  They just spin around and don't wind.

EDIT: I should mention that my winder works fine, once I propped it it up at at angle.  And it runs on either a plug or D cell batteries.  Nowhere near as nice as an Orbita, however.

I have two Orbita winders and they are excellent but very pricey.

Thanks for the advice, I shall look into the Orbita models.  They seem fairly easy to source in the UK.

A cheap ebay model may be worth a punt as well.

Should just get myself an Astron and be done with it.  😃

Thanks Tigerpac for your vote of confidence in the Orbita winders.  I shall definitely be putting these on my short list.

There are quite a few bad stories floating around about some watch winders that are not reliable.  Amazing that what should in theory be a simple piece of engineering can be badly designed and built.
