See, I agree with that totally. Interested to hear what others think too.

Sub question, steerhide or horse hide? Got 2 jackets in mind and I wanted horse hide but actually prefer the steerhide jacket. Spent a few hours researching last night and just left myself confused  :-\

If I could justify it, I'd strongly consider shearling, because I live in a very cold region.

        I like horsehide otherwise.

I have no use for jackets, but I do think a good leather one is a great addition to a wardrobe.  I would go with ordinary cowhide, personally.  I don't see much practical benefit in horse hide.

I was going to add a reference from Full Metal Jacket as well, but I like Chris too much to do so. 🙂

I realise that this is a highly subjective question, but how important is a good leather jacket to a mans wardrobe?

A leather jacket is really something beautiful and it will age with you like your denim and boots. You may pass it down to Tommy one day 🙂 take your time finding the leather and cut you are looking for. I am currently chasing my third leather jacket, more later when i have it. Good luck Mega

Cow or horsehide maybe worth looking at goatskin too.

My current two are cow and fqhh, third will be horsehide too

                              Cheers,
                              David

I've done it David, there is really only one cut of leather jacket which I know suits me so I have stuck with it. I have actually bought an identical jacket to the one I sold on the forum to DownUnderGuy, just a size bigger and the long version.

I'm also missing a good leather jacket in my life. I am trying to be patient and find the one that I absolutely love and must have. None of my previous leather jackets were ever special to me. The McCoy's A2 line has me very curious, lately. More research is needed before I even begin to start thinking about contacting NZ, though. And a little bit of saving, too, of course.

As important as a denim shirt or/ and a good pair of boots… And no: I don't have a leather jacket cause I hate jackets in general, but I still reckon I should have a leather one...

                                          this…
                                          i'm still in need of:

                                          • THE perfect denim jacket
                                          • THE perfect duck jacket
                                          • THE perfect leather jacket

                                          the search is on!

And I know you are well aware of a certain IH denim jacket, in the immediate pipeline, that is generating a lot of buzz.
