I realise that this is a highly subjective question, but how important is a good leather jacket to a mans wardrobe?

Sub question, steerhide or horse hide? Got 2 jackets in mind and I wanted horse hide but actually prefer the steerhide jacket. Spent a few hours researching last night and just left myself confused :-\

If I could justify it, I'd strongly consider shearling, because I live in a very cold region.
I like horsehide otherwise.

I have no use for jackets, but I do think a good leather one is a great addition to a wardrobe. I would go with ordinary cowhide, personally. I don't see much practical benefit in horse hide.

A leather jacket is really something beautiful and it will age with you like your denim and boots. You may pass it down to Tommy one day
take your time finding the leather and cut you are looking for. I am currently chasing my third leather jacket, more later when i have it. Good luck MegaCow or horsehide maybe worth looking at goatskin too.
My current two are cow and fqhh, third will be horsehide too

I've done it David, there is really only one cut of leather jacket which I know suits me so I have stuck with it. I have actually bought an identical jacket to the one I sold on the forum to DownUnderGuy, just a size bigger and the long version.
