Samurai Jeans

^well, the new IH fabrics (23 oz SE, 25 oz) fade as fast if not quicker IMO. And it depends on which Samurai fabric you look at. But compared to the standard 21 oz denim from IH, Samurais fade faster. But the bigger difference to me is that the denim has different character, more slubs and irregularities. Plus cuts, that are more retro than IH. Add the sanforization process on most IHs and you have what makes the difference to me.

Very good calls. Samurai's remind me of Sugarcane in terms of both slub/irregularities and retro cuts. For sure they have their time and place, but if I had my time again I wouldn't be wearing a pair in the office, I'd be wearing IH in the office and Sami's on the weekend. My next office denim is going to be IH-666S; unsanforized, but more regular :). Both have their place
-
Yeah I was really nervous of trying to size down 2 especially after I saw my IH's had stretched to 31 it would have been uncomfortably close and I think they would have ended up too low rise for my taste even if they had worked
especially sizing down on an unsanforized pair of jeans. but the waist will stretch back out to raw measurements and is able to stetch at least 1" beyond the raw measurements
-
^^good choice IMO. The more regular and smooth looking IH denims are more suitable for the office (I'm wearing Samurais at the moment, though :P)

S5000vx waist 29 came this morningAfter first soak they were only a touch snug, waist still measured 30. but figure they had more shrinking left so popped em in for a hot wash on medium agitation to get the rest out and get em nice and snug in the waist. I always worry this will cause my creasing to not be as sharp though
-
Starch em?
-
I may due that actually, I've never used starch but seems like it couldn't hurt initially although I know long term use is believed to be damaging
-
I wouldn't recommend starching - it may cause your jeans to rip earlier. Plus, the Samurai models I own stay stiffer than the IH denim (21oz that is), so you'll probably be fine without starching.
-
Yeah…. I decided against it yesterday. I don't feel that compromising their life for crisper creasing is a fair trade off. In the long run I don't think it will make a terrible degree of difference anyways as I only planned for a single initial starching. I'm glad these didnt shrink in length even a cm. further or I would have been f'd.
** should have said "I'm glad these did not shrink further than they did. thanks for pointing out my mistake b_F
-
They didn't shrink at all in the inseam? Okay…erm yeah. What do they measure now? Got a fit pic of them?
And you really don't ned to starch they will crease and fade easily. Samurai is known for that (except my pairs of course)
-
No they shrank quite a bit. From 38.2 presoak/wash to just under 36" post I'm glad they didn't shrink more than they did orvtheyvwoukd have been too short. And I didnt starch. Sorry for any confusion I had just woke up when I posted
-
Ill get fit pics up as soon as I have acces to my full length mirror. I took the door off as I currently have my mother at my house and helping her recover from double knee replacement. It was a little too narrow to get her walker through the doorway with the door on so it was removed for the next few weeks until she is cleared to walk without assistance.

15th anni. 25 oz s5000vx are up for grabs at BiG. Gonna be too short for me so have at em fellas!!!
-
I'll get one in September from Yuichi. Already reserved me a size 34
The pre-soak inseam is quite short indeed. Similar to the 254oz version. I guess they expect less shrinkage with these -
I'd be interested to see… Gordon still has it listed at a 4-6% shrinkage. I know its ill advised but I'm really considering doing a pair of raw no soak and just not washing like a dirty hippy i know its bad on the denim as well and reduces their life but Tired of being so limited. Let the criticism begin...

nobody here is going to give you a hard time if you do that to your pants.
It's not like being a mass murderer or serial rapist
