Yeah, those are lovely, Hemi.  The Crust leather sounds interesting, too.  While it would definitely look out of place on a dress shoe, it sounds like it would fit your aesthetic nicely.  I'd certainly be willing to try a pair made that way.

Very nice Hemi, I am a traditionalist and I have to say I do not like lug soles of any kind, I much prefer smooth soles or thin rubber sole tips if any with thick leather soles.  I always think of timberland boat shoes with giant lug soles or a big black boots catering for a certain hairy heavy leather clique in san francisco who just adore lug soles, but that's just me, take it or leave it.  Hey, did you know that you guys have one of the only 3 working Rapid Standard Brass Screw machine in the world on your doorstep, you should see if you can get your hands on it.  http://loomstate.blogspot.co.uk/2011/11/william-lennon-factory-stoney-middleton.html

I prefer thinner Rubber Soles as well.  I've still got a bit of work to do on the various sole options.  The craftsman I work with owns the Brass Screw machine.  He lives an 11 hour drive from my house and I've got to go for another visit in the next few weeks to work out some of the kinks.

Love it. Love lugs too. Anything but leather for anything but cowboy boots or dress shoes. Too much snow and ice up here.

I really want to see some close ups of the welt, I can't work out how they are constructed with just a side view

The upper is turned under and glued and nailed to a heavy duty midsole.  Then its glued and brass wire screwed to the outsole.  Its pretty bloody solid!

I'll get some close ups of the process when I go back to the workshop in a week or so.
