Yea so I'm dying to purchase a pair of these. I will need to sell some shit to make it happen though! They is not cheep!
I know this has been discussed a bit, but can someone tell me a bit more about how these stretch and shrink when washed and worn over time? I'm not used to heavier denim, and only just got a pair of 301s but they're obviously a different beast since they're sanforized.
Do these stretch a ton after wear? How about, say, compared to Flat Head's 3xxx denim?

This denim doesn't stretch a lot after the soak. My vulcans, in the same denim, came raw with a 35.75" waist. They shrank to 34.75" and after 7 months of wear, the waist measures 35". IMO, it's the best IH denim offering, the 18oz!

I can second that. I bought at pair of 555-02s and after initial soak and a couple wears they conformed to my body perfectly. However, this resulted in a really slim fitting jean and they barely give with wear, not like the 21 oz that will stretch a bit. These jeans are amazing though and they develop fades and wear marks quite quickly and this denim evo's into an amazing color, just be sure to size right.

I was wondering if anyone could chime in on sizing for the 555-02. Did people size the same as for the 01 or 03? I ask because a 31 in the 18 oz is listed as a 32.5 inch waist raw. So that means if soaked properly it should go down to around 31.5 or possibly smaller (I've never had this denim so I don't know exactly how much it shrinks). How much will it stretch out afterwards? Seems like I'd need to size up one to the 32, as I don't know if I could count on getting 1.5 inches + of stretch on these.

cheers madmonday (mark?). the shoes are a recent purchase - 70's italian made leather in almost new condition.
as for sizing on the 555's, i got the 31 and lost an inch in the waist but gained it back after 10 wear perhaps. it will stretch beyond eventually if you make it. as for the regular 21oz indigo version, assuming it's the stock 21oz you'll get a fair bit of stretch over time. i have a pair of 301s which have stretched almost 2 inches over the years.

Wow - these arrived in the post today and, I have to say, I was nervous about ordering the 18oz denim as I'm a huge fan of the 21oz, have many pairs, know how it behaves and what size to pick etc but these feel amazing! They are a little easy in the waist and top block at the moment and tight through the legs though I'm guessing the top block will fit well after a soak and the legs will stretch back if I pull them on damp (right?).

I think I've also solved the mystery of the 21oz tag. Having now soaked them I'm convinced that Haraki-San meant '21oz post soak'. If anyone spots someone trying to walk around London tomorrow without bending their knees that'll be me. I'm guessing these things take a while to break in. Absolutely loving them though and looking forward to my first full day of wear.
