And about price, didnt vibergs use to cost around 400-500 until they got more popular and they jacked the price to 700+?

That's a good looking boot with Goodyear welt, and they give reason why..

My problem with Viberg (other than the price) is the vagueness of how to actually get a pair. The first and only comment on that Goodyear welt post sums it up well: "i HAVE LOOKING ON YOUR WEBSITE IS NOT LISTED…WHICH ONE IS IT AND HOW DO I GET IT…PLEAS GIVE ME A CONTACT PERSON AND A PHONE NUMBER PLEASE"

        Exactly.

I Know that the Vigerg dude loves to hobnob all around the world. Collabs. Bro pics. Great, great, but how in the world do I get a pair? I mean…. take my money! Their marketing and sales are just terrible. Hopefully the bootbuilder interface will address this somewhat...

Unless its a cowboy boot, I think boots look way better with the Goodyear welt and nice stitching. YMMV.

          Think it, be it.

when i finally caught the bug they were priced between 500 and 650 (at full retail).  it was much easier to get a pair on sale for maybe 400 if you had small feet like me or were willing to pick up an ugly boot no one else wanted when vendors were clearing inventory (not so long ago maybe two years or so).

I remember when I posted a link to an interview with Brett where he said he wanted to charge more.  Then Brett joined, said the quote was taken out of context.  Now their boots cost $700+.  Im not mad at Viberg, they can charge what they want, and clearly the market is willing to pay the price of admission. But I am of the mind that $450-$500 for a MTO pair of White;s horse hide boots makes more sense than this $1000 business.

Personally I'd rather pay the price…. I think at some point when your spending this amount on boots you've clearly toed a line that your more concerned with the quality and craftsmanship than bargain shopping. Bare in mind this is just my opinion and how I look at it but I would much rather pay $700 + for exactly what I want and can hold on to for a lifetime than compromise to save a little bit.

You can pay $400ish for a pair of Whites that are made exactly how you want them, made of the same exact leathers, same exact vibram soles and same boot making techniques as Viberg or you can pay $300+ extra for maybe 10% more attention to detail.
I wouldn't consider Whites bargain shopping, they are the standard when it comes to value. Not sure if Whites are what you're referring to, but there are reasonable options in the custom boot category with equal if not better quality and craftsmanship compared to Viberg.
This debate will always go back and forth but there really is no way to rationalize the price difference. This is not a Timex vs. Rolex type quality comparison here. People buy Vibergs because they like the way they look and because they have the money for it, it's that simple.

                  @bl@ster:

Maybe the Goodyear welting change will bring prices down from "totally absurd" to just "slightly absurd." And maybe they can set up a customization web presence rather than the bogus easter egg hunt that they have now. Just sayin'.

                  Couldn't agree more.

I love this from Brett,"It's fashion, it's not for function. The end user is not a 300lb fat bastard…"

I actually was not referring to whites it was a statement made in general, but Actually… you can not pay $400 for whites and get them the way you want them if you desire something they do not make. This was actually my point to begin with and was the beginning of the post concerning the Goodyear welt change.  I'm a fan of the 310 last with turned toe and i also prefer a stitched down upper . I hope that this stays around because I for one am willing to pay the extra hundred to two hundred to get it made the way I like instead of settling. Furthermore I can't speak from personal experience but From what I've seen throughout the forum whites has more constructional flaws or errors, minor though they maybe, that deterred  me and honestly the drunk driving stitching ive seen lately is completely out of line for a company to allow out the door who charges that price point. IDC who makes the boot if I recieve that I would be livid. But as I stated before this is my opinion, I'm sure some people like what whites has to offer, and I'm sure their boots are amazing but... Like the post states... I would rather pay and get EXACTLY what I want and that was the bottom line, if you like whites buy whites.... If you like viberg buy them. It makes me no difference. But just as you stated that the quality is not timex vs. Rolex neither is the price point. Anyway you split it this is a large amount of money. It's a statement that the general public that does not spend 450-700 on a pair of boots thinks we are all a bunch of nutjobs and would say that either of us are crazy and would also assert that the only reason ANYONE purchases whites, wesco, viberg et. al. Is because "they like the way they look and they have the money." ... I would not read to much into it "cause.... Like.... That's just [my] opinion, man" -the dude

i dont believe that the good year welting will change the looks at all
the 310 last will still be the 310 last
the outsole stitching will still be there
and if it drops the pricing down a little bit im all for it

I'm just going off the conversations with Morgan and what they have implied. I certainly don't want to speculate how this could change the approach they take to connecting to the last and welt as I do not build boots. He conveyed exactly what I have alluded to: that this was being put in to action in the next six months to try to speed up the build process and that as of now it had not yet been determined that stitch down would be phased out but would keep me posted on their direction. Those were  his words without me mentioning anything about stitch down, I can only assume that this could be effected by the new process because he brought that up to me.  I simply asked if the machine welt was the direction the company was moving toward as a whole or if it would be an option and that was his response.

There are some diagrams online that can be accessed if you wish to see how the upper connects on a goodyear welt though and these suggest the same as what Morgan has stated.
