Iron Heart in the Press or on other Sites

I'm shocked IHUK doesn't have any pics in the Instagram acct. Instagram is popping off. It's some of the easiest free advertising out there. You post a pic with hashtags (#) and then people can easily search your pics. I've been turned on to a bunch of new things, just from exploring. Facebook is a thing of the past. There is too much bullshit on there now. Also, you have to post a pic, no text bullshit. Go on there and search #ironheartdenim, #ironheart or #ironheartarmy. There has to be over 3000 IH pics.

I'm shocked too. That is one of the reasons that we have taken on a new member of staff. Currently our priority has to be to service our current customer base (which is growing ridiculously fast), not generate new demand that we can't fulfil. One of Matt's top priorities will be get on top of Instagram…..

That's an interesting information. I guess I'm not the only one that was shocked how fast new items (shirts!) were sold out lately. Which is great for you as salesman, but makes life hard for us customers.
-
On one level, it's not really great for us either. We hate not being able to fulfil demand, but herein lies the predicament:
- We never know what will sell and how fast it will sell. We can make an informed guess and the forum is great for helping us refine what we order
- If we over order, so that everyone gets exactly what they want, we will be left with excess inventory, which means we have money tied up in stock and we may have to sell it on at a lower price
- That pushes our cost up, so we have to price stuff higher, which is not good for you
- Or we slightly under order and keep our costs down
-
btw. you don´t happen to know how much of your sales are made by us forum guys and how much by none-forum people?
would somehow be interesting to know, cuz i think that there are a lot of people out there that buy IH like hot brownies or the likes…No idea. If people ordered under their forum name it would be possible. We genuinely have no idea who most of you are…..Other than a forum name with an associated email addy, which may or may not be the one used when placing an order.....
-
Totally understable from an economic view. A great option would be to re-run some of the items with high demand (SH 20, 38, 72, 31…) so you knew what would probably sell plus save the costs for new developped fabrics and cuts. And with so many new devotees you probably would find a lot people who would be glad to get a chance to own some classics.
(BTW, I am sure there are some guys who own at least as much gear as the hardcore dudes here and don't use the forum at all)

exciting news! I'm an instagram junky myself.

@Max:
…a lot people who would be glad to get a chance to own some classics.
that´s true, but it somehow would also take away the "magic" that comes along with searching/owning/wearing those classics…
there´s nothing better, when it comes to searching for said classics like crazy (for weeks and weeks) and finally after finding one, it´s just a badass feeling to know that you´re one of a few lucky guys that have this shirt in their collection.re-running the classics would really take away said magic feeling and it somehow wouldn´t be a classic/that special anymore...at least not in my book!
just my 2cents though...

Even though I'm relatively new here, I tend to agree with with Finn. There was something cool about about acquiring a now extinct pair of jeans the other day - felt exclusive.
-
Hmm. Not my opinion, sorry. I prefer to own the things I love instead of looking for them for years and then pay a price, that comes close to the retail value. Of course, it feels good to own limited stuff, but when a new shirt arrives with 4-5 pieces in my size and they're gone after 15 minutes, how big is the chance to get those some day? Especially when you don't have the funds to buy 3 shirts that are appealing and show up within few days.
Just like the bottoms, they are extant and nobody gets less pleasure in owning or wearing them because of that. -
I completely understand your perspective, Max. However, I would like to respectfully offer a counterpoint. I think part of the addiction is the thrill of the chase. The knowledge/internal conflict that you may only get 1/3 of the shirts you want, because of funds, makes the one shirt you obtain all the more valuable. It definitely sucks when you miss out on a shirt you were planning on purchasing, and I may just be saying this because I've been on a lucky IH streak, lately; but the limited nature – and the chance of missing something -- adds to the appeal, for me.
I also may have a different perspective because I really like most of what IH produces. As I mentioned, above, I wish to claim a 22 and a 55, someday; but I haven't posted a "want" thread for them because there are so many other shirts/bottoms/jackets/Ts/hardware, etc., that I want, too. I just focus on what's available because even that list is substantially more than I can afford. Now that doesn't mean I will always feel this way. I'll probably end up posting that "want" thread tomorrow, right? Haha. But we all go about things differently.
Of course, I am relatively new to IH, so I may have completely different priorities than a hardened veteran, such as yourself. Meaning: maybe I haven't been soured by missing so many items I want, over the years. I'm not suggesting that you are -- although, it kind of sounds like it, doesn't it? Sorry -- but it's possible I am just ignorant to the realities of the veteran IH faithful. As tatmantall wisely posted, earlier, "Ignorance is bliss" -- this may be especially suitable when it comes to scoring IH.
-
I totally get your point and share it partly. It feels good when you score the shirt you've been looking for a long time, of course. Or when I got my SH 72 the minute they popped up and few hours later I get PM asking me if I want to resell it.
But, if you ask for my feelings as "IH-Veteran" - this forum and the fans of the brand grow and grow and so the chance to grab items is getting lower and lower. Some years ago, you had at least a few days to decide on a new item before it was gone. And yes, I'm kinda bummed to find out that some items are extinct before they even appear on the webstore. Which leads me back to the marketing part - new customers are fantastic, as long as the old ones still get a chance to grab new gear. I'm radically selfish on this part, of course.
