Random Rants
-
Not for the 40D I've got it's not, it's around 350-400 for a camera body that's well-aged. There's after market solutions out there (yongnuo RF-602) which don't cost too much. If I'm not shooting with such a low aperture, the focusing issue mitigates itself.
50mm requires a lot of space to shoot (my only prime) (as above)
24/35mm require glass investment +less space +either after market RF or another body. Both options require a tripod to carry about, which I have, but it also requires a greater time investment to get
the shot
.If I use my other lenses and use the self-timer I can use basically anywhere and get acceptable results, but lack the bokeh.
The 1st question for me has to be, will I have time and daylight hours to be able to shoot SLR-based WAYWT (office work starts tomorrow).
It's an annoying problem that I can solve very easily by throwing cash at, but may end up solving a problem that I'll encounter a handful of times a year, that at the very least I know how to work around, including manual focus.
So this really does deserve to be a random rant and praise to those who can/do nail the bokeh outdoor shots :).

Yup, it does, http://www.amazon.com/Yongnuo-Wireless-Trigger-Receiver-Shutter/dp/B0042TYNJ4 is what I had/have tagged currently if it's a problem I want to solve. So whilst it can be worked around after-market for a handful of dollars, is it a problem I'm going to hit enough to make it worth while fixing? (Canon official is ~$600 (http://shop.usa.canon.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10051_10051_157735_-1))
I was/am surprised that the camera focuses at shutter depress as apposed to before taking the photo which just seems logical (to me) in a self-timer mode.
It's the first time I've hit the issue, will see how time & light goes, might be a moot issue until next summer anyhow. Either manual focus for the odd occasion, or keeping clear of the delicious delicious bokeh are 'free' fixes. Any money spent on a camera body that is 5 years old is hard to swallow, vs something I know is future proof for another 5 years, even if greater upfront cost….

Sometimes in life, we get talked about behind our backs by people who should know better. Maybe if these people brought their issues to us, or chose to discuss them publicly, they would see how wrong they are?
Apologies for being cryptic, not something I want to go into, just feeling the need to rant and this looks like the place

^ right place, right time buddy…so rant away!
snowy
it's actually pretty easy to do a waywt with a prime lens WITHOUT someone taking the shot or WITHOUT a remote to get the focus right! all I do is…-
turn the camera body sideways so that you don't have to step too far away just to have everything in the frame!
-
"mark" the spot where you want to stand by focusing that spot using AF!
-
turn camera body as far up so that the marked/focused spot is down at the bottom when looking through the camera (should be the spot where your
bootsBirkies gonna be!) -
switch lens to MF & set timer (10sec.)
-
go to said marked point and wait till camera takes the pic(s)
-
done

After 5 years, my faithful old Samsung 50" TV just died (common fault), exactly when I didn't need a £500 bill

Just last night I had a crazy dream that I absolutely have to share with you…
For some reason, I was in a hardware store where a friend of mine had (foolishly) left to the cash position a pair of my jeans (my 634sr, now very rare. Don't know way he did something so thoughtless, but you know, dream-logic...).
The clerk tells me lost them!
At the time I was in disbelief, then began to mount in me in a devastating rage. I started to disassemble the store piece by piece.
At one point jumps out a package with a pair of jeans inside. They was not my 634sr, but a couple of dime pre-distressed stupid Levi's! One of those "Engineered" models they launched back in the late '90. I was desperate, but all of the sudden, in the back pocket of those Levi's I found the the true owner's I.D. and stuff!
"Ah!", I said to the clerk "good try, but these are not mine!".
So I continued to disassemble the store, spreading on the ground all the goods exhibited…
Then I woke up.
The memory of the dream was still alive in me later, when, checking the mail, I found a message from G. who informed me of the availability of IHSH-78 ... -
I know what you mean Mega. It's 55 degrees now and tomorrow we are supposed to get 4-8" of snow.

Apparently the "NO SOLICITING" sign on top of my "DOG ON PREMISES" sign isn't enough of a clue…I think I need a "SOLICITORS WILL BE FED TO DOG" sign
I've found it helpful to answer the door with, "Oh- you're not my parole officer!" while not wearing pants.
