I needed to re-chainstitch the hem of my IH-634-XHS today.  I had worn completely through the denim in a couple of places.  This causes problems when feeding through the folder on Unity.  So I sewed on a patch of denim on the inside (mere 21oz) and then hemmed them.  So we had 3 layers of 21oz and 3 layers of 25oz to stitch through.  Unity barely noticed…

My 634 have been looking a little worn of late. I have done a few repairs myself, but been looking for someone to do a proper job.

here are some before and after pictures.

Some of you may think this is fine, in which case head to the denim doctor, I dont. 😞

He did some Levi's at the same time which I have now thrown away. He also took in the waist on a pair of Ironhearts. Similar standard of work to the hemming below.

I emailed and told him i felt that the job was bad, and that he had ruined one pair completely. He said it was the best he could do, and his work is respected in the selvedge community.

The only positive thing I can say is he is a nice enough chap.

i have started to unpick it all, which is unfortunately damaging the jeans further, but if i wanted iron on patches and bad sewing machine stitching i could have got my mum on the case!

If someone knows somewhere other than Self Edge in New York to get proper repair work done let me know  😃

Lotta of those repairs don't really make sense… But I know nowt about sewing/ repairing so I'll wait for someone a bit more knowledgeable to weigh in...

Just to make this clear: these repairs were done by the Denim Doctor based in the USA, right?..

Okay, I thought so too considering the many repairs I have seen on here….

the Denim Doctor everyone recommends is the one at Hollywood Trading Company (to my knowledge). Whoever ripped you off is an impostor, as the bald piglet pointed out.

Also www.denimtherapy.com looks okay… I can't vouch personally for any of these but these are probably the type of repairs you were expecting and where I'd be likely to send my jeans for repairs.

Before I send some pictures to denim doc, is there any in London?

should have used lighter colored thread…greyish blue, and it would've been almost invisible. Just a thought.

Just a quick one about maintenance. This is the crotch stitching on my 634S. There is some wear developing and I think it is okay but wanted another opinion to back me up.
