The Knights in White Denim Tour -AKA The White Trash Tour…
-
Finally, we came across Robin Hood himself, mid-tussle with Little John.
We ventured further into the forest, in search of the oldest Oak Tree in Sherwood Forest, The Major Oak.
We consulted Sign posts…
And discovered our destination…
Sorry, wrong thread….
-
We then commenced to "twat around" for a bit…
And browsed some tourist tat (in preparation for NYC).
And observed a man using a Ye Olde, but extremely elaborate, machine for whittling wood….
Discovered a "Halloween" shop in the middle of the forest….
Which is the only place in England I have ever seen selling Tootsie Rolls :-\

An honourable mention has to go to the other thing which Nottinghamshire was once world famous for, coal mining. We had more coal mines in Nottinghamshire than anywhere else in the UK, and from the 20's up to the 80's drew miners from all over the country and further afield. In the 1980's the Conservative government of Margret Thatcher, alongside Union officials lining their own pockets, fought a battle that would lead to the closure of just about every pit (mine) in the East Midlands, and put thousands of people out of work in an extremely short amount of time. This is an economic blight from which the area has never really recovered, and many studies claim is the cause of much of the social disorder, and anti social behaviour (alcoholism, drugs, violence, petty crime) of the last two generations.
This is Clipstone Colliery, it has been closed for 9 years after going into private ownership, and was the last local pit to close.
Edit: FACT ALERT
The headstocks of the colliery are regarded as the tallest in Europe and the third tallest in the world. They are Grade 2 Listed structures and can be seen all over the district. They are expensive to keep in good repair and there have been a number of appeals, as yet to no avail, to demolish them. But however the clipstone headstocks are nearly demolished now and no one knows what will happen in the future

I have, I bought one from Ye Olde Wallgreens in NYC a couple of years ago
-
Tootsie Pops are where it's at, fools.:)
-
All that Robin Hood, and mining action and all you fuckers want to do is debate candy products named after Dustin Hoffman in drag
-
Sorry for not getting worked up for Chinese made tourist knick knacks, decaying remnants of the Industrial Revolution and trees.:D
How long has Tommy been without front teeth? (insert de rigeur joke about English dentistry here)
And Tootsie Pops are better than the Drops; yes they have a stick, but they're also larger, and everyone knows that bigger is better…
-
Most of that tourist shite was made in the UK, hence it was three times the price of the Chinese made tourist shite
Tommy lost his two front teeth over the last month or so, one is growing back slowly so he will soon look like a Texan (inbred)
And no Tootsie has shit on a 5th Avenue bar, or a Nutrageous bar.

Reminds me of fun family outings in Sherwood Forest way back when. I'm positive I had one of those exact same bow and arrow sets in the 1980s - good to see them still for sale!
-
Such a great update Mega!
-
See you in New York.
-
My mom has been reading Mega's post and now loves the forum. Thankfully, I'm not a family outcast anymore!!!
-
I'm pleased your mom likes my White Knight adventures JSJ. There might not be any more posts until we're back from NY, but assure her that there is still plenty of life in this old dog before handing them off to Hectic

Next KIWD tour post will be made when I get home, but will be happening tomorrow with a special guest appearance from Mr Urbanwoodsman
