Yes. Get the lining. Any soft material between your body and Wesco's is a good thing.

^+1000!  My Jobmasters are lined and I think they would have been brutal during break-in without it!  But they aren't actually broken-in just yet, but I can tell that the lining makes them feel more compliant!

Cant't comment on Wescos yet. I ordered them without lining.

Usually lining is used with softer leather so the shaft is more rigid.

Also absorbs sweat and thus extends the life of the shoe/boot…..

                    Different strokes to different folks

Vamp is anyways leather lined, so lining for shaft is personal preference.

I built my boots to be sort of replica of 40/50's Engineer boots, and then shafts didn't usually have linings…

Wesco is having a sale. $50off new boots+$20 off shipping. Doesn't apply to factory seconds but if you can find the clearance area it does apply to those.

                            http://www.westcoastshoe.com/wesco/stock.asp

Not sure if this will take you to the clearance section directly, but you should at least see the link in the top left corner.

edit: go to the stock boots page, then go to highliners, then look in the top left corner for the clearance area link.

BigBlackBoots website and ordering system is just a pain in the ass. Very thorough and informative though.
                                That's why I opted Bakers.

And the price difference wasn't that huge.

would anyone be able to speak on the quality of the Wesco burgundy leather?  I know it is 5oz and 2mm thick…I posted a similar question in the Viberg thread because I really like the idea of the Merlot CXL but am not sure how it measures up against the Wesco Burgundy...if anyone has any thoughts on quality comparisons between the Wesco and Viberg engineers would be grateful.

I have no first hand experience of neither boots.

I opted Wescos, 'cause they were pretty much customizable (spelling?) And what I have understood, with wescos you get what you paid for. They are for the GO. Maybe it's just my imagination, but I have this idea in my head, that Viberg's even if they are nice ang excellent boots, are more for the SHOW….

Also, I again just think, that wescos burgundy is surely meant to be used in boots.

(I owned a short while Becks Engineers. I believe they were CXL leather, The boots were very narrow instep nad I was afraid I would rip the leather when gettin' them on my feet. That's why I sold those immediatelly. They were purely for show IMO)

exclaimer: GO = real use on bike, and the usual shit kickin'
SHOW = you know what sidewalk commandoes do...

I own the Viberg horsehide engineer with flat toe and it is the best boot I have ever owned together with the FlatHead horshide workboot. On the other side, I do not know Wesco or the burgundy leather in general but I am sure quality and feeling is on high level as well from what you can read from the colleagues here. I believe it makes no sense to talk about "Go or Show" just buy what you like and you feel comfortable with. If you have the chance to try on the boots live, use it. imho

                                      Cheers,

Look if this helps, all I know is that Britain's leading leathersmith (Will @ aeroleather) talks of only one boot, and that's Wesco, that's good enough for me.

Go and show is my personal opinion. I ride, and quite a lot. I know wescos have been used by plenty of others who ride. That's why they got my vote.

Functionality and dependability, as well waterproofness means a lot when your on a bike several hours straight in pouring rain. To me engineer boots are like tools for mechanic….

I'm not putting viberg down, If I understand correctly, they are fairly new on engineer boots, correct me if I'm wrong.

And simonc, your comment tells a lot...

                                          enuff said...
