I know I'm behind the times, but "El Camino" by the Black Keys is getting plenty of play over at Tron towers currently.

In the interests of discussion, has anyone else's music taste mellowed as they got older? In my teens it was all about British Indie music for me (Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Joy Division, The Smiths etc…), in my twenties I started with thrash metal (Anthrax, Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth), then calmed into older rock (Kiss, AC/DC, etc....), and now I tend to listen mainly to music that I feel has been aimed, or categorised, for a white guy in his 30's (Arcade Fire, Noah And The Whale, Coldplay, Black Keys). Am I a sell out?

Some bands that I have liked since childhood, and still listen to regularly are....

Guns N Roses (old stuff, saw them live 5 times)
Stone Roses (saw them live once, never again. Awful live band)
Beastie Boys ( sad times RIP MCA, my older cousin bought Licsence To Ill and got me into them years ago)
Faith No More (my original favourite band, saw them so many times live)

I definitely think my music taste has mellowed, and also effected by my age and my passions. I used to skate a lot in my teens, so indie and hip hop were what everyone in that scene listened to, in my 20s I spent most of my time drunk in a local rock club, hence metal, these days I socialise more at home with friends, so we need something that doesn't drown out a party.

    Rambling over.....

Made in England, clothed in Japan, fed in America and drunk in Belgium !

        @MikeC:

Fela Kuti is the fucking man. Check anything by him and his band Africa. He was originally from Nigeria. He runs the show and plays sax and keys. The dude's Nigerian style is fly as shit too. I would call his sound World Groove Funk. This isn't some generic hippy funk shit…...

AMEN! I have a ton of his stuff.Oh and his some Femi Kuti is one bad dude as well!

          ^^Nice one L.

Speaking of soul, I've been listening to new cats who I hope to see come up in the genre. Since most of the songs we associate soul with are from classic artists, it's hard to come by new folks trying to make a name for themselves. One of my favorites.

          I'm as ugly as you

I noticed Tragedy are on tour soon. Tempted to go see 'em… sort of...  😛 Saw them a couple of times years ago and was always impressed. I just sold my copy of the To the Dogs 7" but the first album was really good (said like a true punk, eh?).

Phish needs to do a Japan run like they did in 2000, then you can be sure that I'll book flights. The Japanese crowd loved Phish. I still see Japanese fans from Japan on tour around the USA.

Yeah D666, people need to realize that it's not all hippies and drugs.  Hearing someone solo over the rest of the band is alright, but what happens when it's a full band rock improv. And I'm not talking about jazz, you'll have to hear it to believe it.

This is from the Labor Day run in Commerce City, CO.  Go to the 5 minute mark and listen. Tell me that's not badass….

Here's another great clip from the 3 night run in Chicago, 2011. It was the middle of August and hot as heck. This clip has another great example of full  and rock improv, it hits around the 7:45 mark straight through the end. Also, at the 9:30 mark, check out the lights. It's the best classy light show around. The lights are also done on the fly by the lighting guy, Chris Kuroda. No lasers, fire balls or props, just four dudes, with the sickest light show, playing the best live show money has to offer. Enjoy.

This song is Undermind. It's part of the 2nd set from the 1st night, 8/15/11.  The whole set is amazing. I was leaning on the back wall during this song, it was too hot.  Chicago in August is lethal….
