You know, the more I look, the better they appear to fit for being true to size… are you sure you didn't just get a 38 by accident.  The chart says the 38 should come w/ about a 35.1" waist.

Thanks for the comments, I don't post a lot but I've used contributions that some of you have made ( on this, and other forums ) to inform my purchase decisions…

I don't have any decent retail stores where I live… oh, and there's nothing like dropping 400 on jeans without being absolutely sure that they'll fit, and if they don't fit all you can get is store credit, or sell it to some lucky chap for a loss...

so true. that's why it's best to have all your doubts cleared here before buying. won't wanna go through the trouble of exchanging sizes. not like G have a lot in stock and wouldn't wanna trouble him with any exchanges if possible.
