I think the navy were surplus grey shirts that were dyed?

Other way around! There was a blue one. The gray leftovers were dipped in indigo.

Right, I knew the indigo ones were dipped greys. I looked at the snaps and didn't see any indigo in the "Permex" lettering but the size tag on the interior side seam is dyed so I assume indigo. Which would be my preference so alls well that ends well.
