@WhiskeySandwich I've not played anything by Kojima before Death Stranding but I loved it. Definitely looking forward to the sequel whenever it drops.

    Take the dive...

@Heavy_blue man, i tried to restart Death Stranding a second time as a recap and, as great as it was, i had a hard time maintaining momentum. I think I just had the bug for a racing game. But I'm itching for another compelling single-player third-person story game. Ghost of Tsushima killed it too, but it's been a while and they're starting to become less common. I miss the Nathan Drake chronicles lol. The last of us part 1 was one of the best games i've ever played, but it felt like it should've been a stand-alone. Really looking forward to DS2 and GTA6 tho. Those are top of my list.

@WhiskeySandwich you’re definitely right mate! I must say that Elden ring is really one of my favorites. Every dark souls game tho.. but the uncharted saga back in the day was reallt amazing! Death stranding is cool but in such another way! I really loved the MGS saga to. Maybe the rise of ronin is something for you?

@WhiskeySandwich The Last of Us: Part 1 was a standalone (hence the ": Part 1" wasn't added until much later, once they'd done a sequel and remastered it for PS5). If you haven't played Part 2 I'd definitely say it was worth it. There are one or two story beats which I thought were very contrived in Part 2, but overall I think it was a good story that worked to achieve what it was trying to do.

Played the Spider-Man games yet? They have surprisingly good stories and, as single-player action games they're well worth a look.

Stellar Blade comes out in a couple of months and that looks intriguing too. The character model isn't too unpleasant to look at either... ahem...

            Take the dive...

@EdH the first spiderman was awesome. i shouda got miles morales but was pretty far removed by the time it came out. i've had less and less time for games but I've always loved gaming as far as its like an interactive movie.
I need to look into Ronin. @Heavy_blue MGS is def what started it for me. Games with deep stories and cinematics ftw

After a little tinkering with my AI Govee gaming lights and some much-needed wire management (still not perfect, but I have to get the wall sorted soon), the base of operations is slowly getting there. I have been re-learning how to use the mouse and keyboard for FPS again after 17 years of using controllers. It's safe to say I will have to give some competition games a miss with the squad for a while.

I still need to get some of my movie posters up on the wall and the dartboard (however, that may need to live at IHUK 😂), but the office/games room is slowly getting there.

Having got kicked from Helldivers 2 due to their ongoing server issues, I booted up Brotato for the first time last night. Fun and very simple little roguelike with tonnes of build variety from what I can see so far. And at only £3.99, the price is perfect. Give it a go.

It may be buried back in here somewhere, but anyone into open-world games? When they're done we'll, they're timeless. But when they aren't...man I've been trying to get Bethesda's Starfield to work for me for about six months now. I want to love it so bad. I start, play, stop after being bored...then regroup and try again. I paid $100 for the prerelease and I just can't get my money's worth out of it. But then Witcher 3, Skyrim...even AC Odyssey...they're just phenomenal, though I know I'll meet with some disagreement on the last one by the AC purists. Anyone have some suggestions?

                          Tried the recent Spider-Man games? (Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Spider-Man 2.)

They're all open world, the side-activities aren't too onerous or repeated too much, and make good use of the combat and traversal mechanics, and they have a good Marvel-esque story. And speaking of traversal, the web swinging feels great - the only reason I did any fast travelling was to unlock a particular trophy that requires you to use it.

I'd give up on Starfield if you're not enjoying it. I gave up on Fallout 4 after no fewer than three attempts at it. Life is too short and there are much better games to play from what I've heard about Starfield.

A fun little game I’ve been playing on steamdeck is deep rock galactic survival. It’s like vampire survival but with a few twists. Fun when you only have 20 minutes or so to get in some quick gaming.

@EdH @iammortalcombat Is Helldivers still fun and accessible playing with randoms? Or is it one of those games where you need to communicate over voice chat with a partner to make the most of it?

@T4920 It's a huge amount of fun. Randoms are randoms, and you get what you get, but the game is incredibly generous in the way it is set up to avoid frustrating you. A few points may help to explain what I mean:

For communicating without voice, the game has a good contextual ping system allowing you to point at a thing (supplies, a location, baddies) and highlight it for squad mates. Your in-game character will call out "enemy heavy, south-west, close, 50m" or whatever is suitable, depending on what you pinged. There's also a radial menu (on PS5 it's radial, might be different on PC) to select quick responses like "thanks", etc. Finally, you can drop a pin on the minimap, which will show up on everyone's radar, which is good to tell everyone where to head next.

What I tend to do if my mates are not online is start a mission and wait to see if the randoms who turn up are using voice. If they are, I turn on my mic, but otherwise I tend to use the above to communicate what I want to do. It works, but is a bit more fiddly than just being able to speak.

Finally, you only lose a mission if you run out of time to complete the main objective. You'll still achieve the mission's goals and get yourself some rewards even if everyone dies and fails to extract. Doing side content is completely optional. So while I had some frustrating random squad mates last night who seemed to think that killing enemies and getting bogged down in fights was a good idea (it's not at the hardest difficulties, only the main objective matters, and stealthing around patrols and fleeing from large battles is often the better strategy) we were still able to get stuff done with a last minute, frantic push on the objective at the end of the timer, even if we were all killed and failed to extract afterwards.

                                    Take the dive...

Can’t say it better than that tbh.
I play mostly with clanmates from another game but if no one is around quick play can be worth it. In lower difficulty it’s hit or miss but with higher it’s much better.

Also they are planning to expand the game but their back end team is legit like 5 people.

The most issues came from the fact that the game was not coded for the peak population that hit it opening week. Original helldivers was designed small and only peaked at 170k player base. Helldivers 2 was designed for about a 350k peak player base.

It hit 700k players simultaneously the first weekend it was out. That’s why all the login queue issues. They mostly fixed all that and occasionally I’ll get a network drop or something but it’s much rarer
