Hikes In Denim
-
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve updated this thread. But today I decided that the Slubs need to be worn and hiked in again. I couldn’t hold out until the next denim competition. Here’s to the new year and getting back into the swing of things. So far added about 5 minutes to my average mile, but I was also taking a lot of photos too. I probably won’t be able to go as frequently as before, but slow progress is better than no progress! Since Matt now has the 777 Sample, I’m now wearing the Pronto x Iron Heart anniversary Slubs. And now the fun pics! All taken with my iPhone 13 Pro since it was a little too cold to not wear gloves.

Went for a long and vigorous one today. Got my mile tile down quite a bit since it was very cold. Started at 10F (-12C) and ended at 18F (-7.5C). Wore pretty much the same kit, but this time added long thermal underwear to the bottoms. This kit can really handle so much. I was sweating, but my mustache kept freezing [emoji3063]. Still manages to snag a few pics. You’ll notice in the map that it looks like I was walking on the water. Well the lake is at a 4 foot draw down for various projects and is mostly frozen. There used to be a bridge that connected the two sides down the middle, but it sank long ago - according to my dad’s stories. But you can see a road that kind of goes into no where. This is the furthest I’ve seen it go out before and it was a fun sight and stinky smell. But all in all a great hike. Now I’m laying down and watching some hockey because I am totally wiped out.
I call this part of the hike the Conifer Causeway
The road to no where
Of course there were some tires there^
Frozen Swan and Geese tracks
My favorite place to sit and take a break.

It’s almost been two years since I’ve done one of these. Kind of mind blowing to me. Life has had its ups and downs. I can see how that time has passed on my denim. Pretty wild. Hope you all are happy and healthy! Looking forward to posting more of these. I’m saving up for a really nice mirrorless camera to take even better pictures. Right now everything is being shot on iPhone 15 Pro Max. Enjoy your day!

@Oaktavia you were the inspiration of those shots. I’d love to get into foraging. I will certainly pop back there. This is one of my favorite trails
Right on man I am stoked to hear that! Fungi are amazing lifeforms. I have been lucky enough to be able to forage oyster mushrooms on my property this season, it has been hella exciting. COTW is amazing though and is definitely native your area. It is bright orange when ripe for picking, usually around Labor Day.

I would LOVE to find wild oysters myself. They are my favorite. Next time you find some. Tell me all about it. I’d love to hunt those, COTW, and morels in my area. I’m only a few hours north of you. So should be able to find them
I found five small clusters yesterday, one of which was large enough to pick. I will check the other smaller clusters today after work. Half the time, slugs get to them first.
