@setandsetting It really depends on what you’re doing. Extended hours/miles on a bike can lead to chafing in spots that can be extremely painful doing everyday normal activities. The more miles on the saddle and the more money you want to invest in clothing to minimize that chafing. As mentioned about the taint, you don’t want to aggravate it and if you do, watch out.

I’ve got to the point where I no longer bother with a jersey or bibs. I just wear some Patagonia baggies and whatever shirt I want. Weather it’s a cropped T, long sleeve, sweatshirt etc… I have bags on all my bikes to carry anything I’ll need. So the loss of a couple back pockets is fine… plus, even on a long road ride being comfortable and having some clothes flap in the wind a little is just as fast as wearing Lycra and looking like an idiot… all my roadie friends wear Lycra and ride super expensive carbon bikes and I’m just as fast as them in my baggies on my steel frame.
In the end, it’s personal preference… just do what’s comfortable for you

Got a Gravel Bike recently. Added some Mudguards for longer cycling trips. Not as cool as some bikes here but I’m very happy with my purchase

I picked up this All City Gorilla Monsoon back in 2019, then during Covid for whatever reason I stopped riding...well I recently was inspired to get this beauty back on the road. I've converted it from drop bars to flat bars and put some hydraulic brakes on it as well - fun project - I'm stoked to have this back on the road again. (photos are from the day I bought it to today when the build wrapped up).

Yes! I also run one on the rear when bikepacking… they are the best bags out there in my opinion

Going to wake this post up from the dead.

When I was a kid, I rode mountain bikes all over the place, got older and switched to motorcycles. Then I got kids, abandoned the 2 wheelers and started getting into BBQ. My ex bought a TERN GSD Longtail and told me to also go electric to keep up. I caved and bought a Cowboy bike but was never a fan of electric bikes so I didn't ride it much.

Fast forward to a month ago when a coworker asked me if I wanted to sell him my bike. I agreed and decided it was time for me to get the bike I've always wanted and get into a new hobby along the way. For some reason, I've always been drawn to Ti bikes, the simple, strong frame paired with the corrosion resistance made it a 'one bike to rule them all'.
So I bought a Van Nicholas Rowtag With a Shimano GRX820 groupset and DT Swiss wheels. I'm still in my early stages and rode about 300km so far, No 'Click in' pedals yet because I'm not yet 100% at ease. Doing as much commuting as I can to build up stamina and when I have the time, I use komoot to help me find the small roads to get home.

I really dig riding 'gravel', It brings me back to my MTB days but my experience from riding motorcycles helps in reading the trials and keeping my momentum going. Looking forward to much more happy rides and for those interested, the Ti does not disappoint, it has a certain sturdy yet comfortable feel so I couldn’t be happier. I’m only at the start of this new hobby but things look promising for sure.

                                        Hello surly riders,

I need some advice for surly bike frames:

I’m looking for a straggler frame that I’d like to ride with a drop bar. I’d say that 56 is usually my bike size, but Surlys seem to measure really large (I’ve never had a Surly). I’m 178cm tall and my standover hight is 84 cm (without shoes). I have a neutral ape index and slightly longer legs than torso.

Would you recommend a size medium (54) or large (56) for me?
