@northsouthdenimguy Thanks for the advice! Those Indys look great

@cb09 Yeah, I also had trouble figuring out what size to get based on varying advice online…but I went a full size down and they fit great. I have a pair of JL Combats a full size down which fit nice as well. I’m a 10 in sneakers, 9.5 in Red Wing, 9 in JL and Viberg for reference.

@NickD Thanks Nick! Yeah, I’d seen some images of treated rough out and it really did change the color of the boots which I really like. I was a little concerned about water staining untreated leather but don’t want to baby them either. Denim rub off is just going to be part of the process since that’s all I wear

Was lucky enough to get a pair of my grail boots. JL M43 in rough out suede. Super comfy right out of the box…not sure if it’s due to the last or the leather being more supple, but they’re great. Curious if anyone has any advice on care for roughout leather? I’ve seen a lot of conflicting advice out there…

@motojobobo Sure thing. (Sorry for the late reply, I was traveling and still can’t figure out how to add pics on mobile :)…)
Here’s the specs I as best as I can remember:
Zerrows Boneakers OD Black Horsehide with Vibram wedge sole. I had a thin solid vibram sole added when i re-soled them since I burn through the soft wedge soles rather quickly…It really helped!

3rd year with my Zerrows Boneakers…resoled once. Gotta say they’re my most comfortable boots. -

@teddyjay thanks! I’ll look them up. I bought an inner down liner jacket from Danton but it turned out too big for a type 2. Funny since they said it was slim and I ordered a small….

@popvulture yeah they’re super nice & the mid height is a fun change up. I thought the steel toe cap would be tricky but that turned out to be kinda fun too. My only qualm might be the mid cut height has been brutal on my ankles, but it seems to be lessening with wear.

Snow day in Brooklyn so I broke out my old red wing moc toe. These were my first pair of real boots 12 years ago… a gateway drug for sure!

Ok, so maybe a random question, but does anyone know of any liners that would work under a Y2 type 2? Most I’ve seen are likely too long or too thick to work in the shorter body length. My goal is to extend my Y2 season!

@Mizmazzle the leather is super nice, and the break in seems pretty easy. I really like them. Worth the wait! My only note is that the back of the speed hooks have some sharp edges that seem to be abrasive on the tongue, but I might try and burnish/sand them off.

Finally got my grail boots! John Lofgren combats in olive cxl. Walked 2 miles to my studio…so far so good!

@Mizmazzle Thanks man! To be honest, it’s nicer than my first skin

Breaking in the Boneakers. The sole is soft, but the leather is stiff! Pretty comfy though..planning on wearing them on an upcoming trip to Berlin

@Mizmazzle Will do. I actually have JL USN low quarter derbies in 9.5 and they fit nicely. That tracks with SS recommendation to size down a half size for the derbies, so they seem to be accurate in their fit advice.

I’m obsessed with JL’s Olive cal Combat Boots, but have seen so many different recommendations on sizing. I’m a bit confused. JL’s site recommends .5 down from Brannock, Standard and Strange recommends 1 size down. I’d tend to trust the manufacturer but so many other sites say 1 full down as well. I had a pair of Viberg 1035 in 9.5 and felt they were too big. I have Red Wing Moc Toes in 9.5 and they fit fine. I’m wondering if I should go 9 or 9.5 in the Combats? Thanks!
