RE: Random questions to which you seek an answerposted in The Resource Centre
About 4½ years ago, I had a catastrophic quad-tendon rupture on my right leg. The accident, surgery, and early recovery were by far the most painful experience I’ve ever had but what surprised me was how badly it wrecked my lower back. For months, and honestly the first couple of years, I had to rehab not just my knee and quad, but my entire back from the lumbar area all the way up. Even the way I slept while favoring the injury was putting constant strain on my lower back.
One of the biggest breakthroughs for me came from discovering the Knees Over Toes Guy protocols. It’s not a “lower back program” per se, but it all ties together. Strengthening the knees, quads, hips, and posterior chain restores proper gait mechanics, which takes pressure off the spine. The single most helpful exercise for me has been backward sled work. I do it in the gym, and I even have a wheeled sled at home. The backward walking builds VMO strength, knee stability, and balanced leg drive and when your legs are doing their job, your lower back doesn’t have to overcompensate.
Long story short: rehabbing the knee without addressing the way your body moves as a whole is incomplete. Fixing the chain below the spine is what ultimately fixed the pain above it.
Just my experience with lower back pain not saying it’s right for everybody…

I really do enjoy that part of it. I’ve had four completely different leathers now, and each one has reacted in its own way to the nasty, unforgiving environment of construction sites. It’s wild how differently they age under the same abuse.
I also enjoy watching other people’s footwear patina, especially when it’s a leather I’ve worn before. It’s interesting to see the differences, whether someone is barely maintaining their boots or they are babying them and how that shows up in the wear patterns.

Tailgating before the Falcons game, only I could take a picture and make Mercedes-Benz Stadium look like a shed somebody built in their backyard

Well, let’s hope at least some of the students across all those age ranges appreciate the fits.

Honestly, it’s kind of lost its initial sparkle. I didn’t do the very first year the one that was a little cobbled together but the second and third years were really fun. Last year it already felt like things were starting to wane, and this year it seems like a lot of the people who used to be really involved and vocal (in a good way) just aren’t anymore.
Even if you’re on the Stitchdown premium Discord, there’s just not a whole lot going on there especially on the thunderdome channel.
I’ve got my theories. I’ve been around long enough and involved in enough Domes to see the patterns. I think a lot of people are just burned out, and honestly, it feels like there are a few folks who are pretty much guaranteed to win because of their industry presence. It takes some of the fun out of it.
I really like Ben and I think he does an amazing job with stitchdown and I enjoy what he’s built. Not a dig against him I think it’s just what happens in these type of contests. Also, I think he could be a little more active on his discord, it really drives engagement every time he pops on there…Regardless of all that, I usually wear the same pair of boots for work for months until they need a resole, so this is something I do anyway, I’m just documenting it for the dome with a chance of winning something.

Submitted the December photos the other day was going to wait to shoot them outside but running out of time and desire…
It’s been insanely wet and muddy on all my sites, so these have been taking a real beating. By the time April rolls around, they’ll definitely be ready for a resole, but it’s definitely one I’ll keep wearing for years
