  • RE: Random Announcements

    @DougNg:

    PPS-seeing eye dogs have special harnesses and a giant sign on them that says "Service Animal"

    You can actually buy those vests on amazon. They have velcro labels for pretty much every type of service animal, including "emotional support animal," K9 Unit, etc. My brother got me one for my english bulldog (with just the "service dog" label). I've only had the balls to use it once. I took him to a hardware store. My dog started rearranging the merchandise. I tried to pass it off like he was in training but I really couldn't keep a straight face.

  • RE: Memorable concerts

    Christ, I would give a testicle to see Zeppelin, even now.

    First concert: MC Hammer - You can't touch this.

    Most memorable: Rage Against the Machine - I was a preppy, fairly sheltered little twerp in seventh grade (14, maybe). They were one of my favorite bands, but I wasn't necessarily in my element. Luckily I was in a semi-secluded wheelchair section… Until it got invaded during Killing in the Name. I kinda feared for my life as this chick started jumping around and shrieking the "fuck you, I won't do what you tell me" part for 5 minutes. It might have been terrifying then, but I always chuckle looking back on it. It built character. It was their last show in Phoenix, I think, so I'm glad I got to see them.

  • RE: Books

    @mclaincausey:

    Just picked up "Thinking, Fast and Slow".  So far, it seems to be a masterpiece, though I've only read the introduction, first chapter, and an appendix with a seminal paper published in Nature on decision-making that lead to a Nobel Prize in Economics for the author.

    Dude, you're gonna have to let me how this goes. I've been reading some Nassim Taleb and was gonna pick this up soon.

  • RE: IHSH-70 - Heavy Herringbone Flannel Western (Red, Grey and Sax)

    @mclaincausey:

    Mr. Postman came bearing a gift by way of GimpKid. This is my first IH flannel.  I sure hate having to put this one away until Fall.

    If IH made a full body PJ with a hatch in this fabric I'd probably wear it to bed. A robe would also do the trick. So soft.

    Ahh! You're making me regret selling it!

    It deserves to be worn, though. And it's looking good.

    @mclaincausey:

    Not only was GimpKid super prompt, this feckin herringbone is gorgeous and in great shape, AND he included some IH stickers. A hero indeed. Shirt has me pining for winter. Yes I am the guy who was just ranting about snow a few weeks ago.

    @Arabit:

    GimpKid is a super fast shipper & super nice fellow. Received the package with a thank you note

    Both of you guys were great to deal with. Glad everything arrived safe. Now go wear the crap outta that stuff!

    Whew, grabbed a grey medium. Very rarely is it a blessing to be small(ish).

    Hey G,

    Are these still on track for next month sometime? Trying to decide between these and 555s…

  • RE: IHSH-70 - Heavy Herringbone Flannel Western (Red, Grey and Sax)

    I was able to cop a red medium from Self Edge. Such an awesome shirt. I totally agree with JSJ on the coziness. It might be the warmest flannel I'll need in Arizona, although I have my eye on the new blanket lined denim shirt.

    Also I'd like to point out that the IH branded snaps are feckin sweet. They're very subtle. It's the first shirt I've had with them.

    Now I just need it to cool down enough to wear it.

    @bagley920:

    So my brother's Passbook let him scan in his Walgreens card but now won't do anything but show the card.

    Mine won't even do anything other than send me to the App Store

    @derivative666:

    I don't understand passbook

    Passbook isn't a stand alone app. It's really not supposed to do anything other than be a "wallet" for other apps. Other apps load cards into Passbook so you can use them in stores (via the on screen QR codes).

    So, once you load the Walgreens card, that card is now ready to use. The store can scan the QR code attached to that card on the phone rather than having to carry the physical card. Your brother probably doesn't have any other passes in his passbook so that's the only one showing up.

    The real issue is that Passbook requires infrastructure within the retailers that use it (devices to scan your phone). For instance, Fandango has Passbook support so you can send your ticket to Passbook and the theater can just scan your phone on entry. But not many theaters have that yet.

    So if developers and retailers choose to use it, it could be cool.

  • RE: Eyeglasses / Sunglasses Discussion

    Found a pair of Dita Statesman on ebay.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/DITA-STATESMAN-EYEGLASSES-2011A-52-BLACK-BLACK-Swirl-FREE-S-H-/150828658352?pt=US_Sunglasses&hash=item231e16aeb0

    I won't be bidding but thought others might be interested. Just keep in mind that price is only like $60 off retail.

    Got iOS 6 earlier. I agree about the maps, actually. Kinda sad. Hopefully Google releases a maps app.

    Feck, those are nice too.

    They really don't make many of the acetate frames that come stock with sunglasses lenses, which is a shame.

  • RE: Eyeglasses / Sunglasses Discussion

    Cool, thanks. They look good.

    I was looking at the Ramblers or the Whitehalls, as those both come in sunglasses and I don't need Rx. The Whitehalls looks huge, though. Either way I gotta buy some IH-555s first.

    Hey G,

    Are these your Dita Ramblers by chance? I've been trying to get an idea of their size.

  • RE: American Football (NFL)

    Niners beat the Packers in Lambeau last week (not that shocking, really), but then Cards beat the Pats in Foxborough this week, Seattle crushes Dallas, and Rams beat the Redskins and RG3… What is going on in the NFC West?

    @Megatron1505:

    Any of my fellow geeks read much of DC's "The New 52"? I thought it was such an awful idea that I've avoided it like the plague…..but I'm rapidly running out of comic books to read.

    I thought the new Batman was okay. I did not, however, like the new The Dark Knight.

    The Batman Detective Comics are okay too, in my opinion.

    I really need to check out Walking Dead…

  • RE: Comic Books/Graphic Novels

    I've also wanted to check out Transmetropolitan by Warren Ellis for awhile too. I thought his novel, Crooked Little Vein, was pretty hilarious.

    Looks like I can get it digitally (my preferred medium), so I may give it a shot.

  • RE: Comic Books/Graphic Novels

    Yeah, I don't read comics that often. I picked up a few when "the new 52" from DC came out. Some were okay. Most were bad.

    I'll still probably check out Before Watchmen. Curiosity always gets the best of me.

    Anyone check out the new Before Watchmen yet? I want to check it out even though the whole series is kinda a sacrilege. I was curious what you guys thought, though.
