Comic Books/Graphic Novels
-
I just read a load of the Fables graphic novels while on holiday, really enjoyed those stories.
-
I tried to cheer myself up about the shitty state of my beloved DC by re-reading all the classics, now I am finished I feel all sad and empty when I look at what they're doing now
-
Anyone check out the new Before Watchmen yet? I want to check it out even though the whole series is kinda a sacrilege. I was curious what you guys thought, though.
I keep wanting to. I know it's a really cynical attempt to generate more cash, as a friend of mine said "Watchmen is perfect, it contains its own backstory".
On the other hand, I am slightly curious… £3.00 per comic is too much though, I may wait until it's all collected.
Or it gets cheap in digital form. I feel the holding back of the last two story arcs as a really, really cynical move though.

If anyone has not read Kingdom Come, by Mark Waid and Alex Ross, stop what you are doing and go buy it, right now.
-
Never been man, I'm in the UK so it's a fair trek
But if it sells comics, and is inhabited by individuals who believe that a man can fly, I would most certainly love it
-
Thanks Nate, I do love a good geek out
Who's everyone's favourite writers?
For me, I roll with Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, Warren Ellis, and Mark Millar (Moore is my number 1).
Artists, I love Alex Ross, and for some reason I absolutely love the style of Frank Quitely.
-
Alan Moore, Frank Miller, Garth Ennis, Mike Mignola, John Layman
-
Shit, I forgot about Frank
Dark Knight Returns is one of the greatest books ever
-
Moore, Miller, Ennis, Ellis, Gaiman, Zulli, Bendis, Mack, Millar, Steranko, Loeb, Furman, Straczynski, Claremont, Windsor-Smith. To name a few
Edit… Can't believe I forgot Romita and Waid, currently reading Irredeemable and Incorruptible. Oh and Brubaker, his run on Daredevil
-
Newest Daredevil is fantastic

Any of my fellow geeks read much of DC's "The New 52"? I thought it was such an awful idea that I've avoided it like the plague…..but I'm rapidly running out of comic books to read.
-
Read a few of the Batman story lines. Haven't got the money/time/inclination to follow any more. Hope it isn't a new trend DC have started here, rebooting all their lines every few years…
I know they have to entice new readers in somehow, but what was wrong with the "continuity" of the last 52 event?? I suppose it could be argued that starting to read a comic at issue #900 or so could put people off, but why not just start reading at the newest story arc? That's what I used to do, then if you like the characters, read a few of the collected editions...
As opposed to "Holy Shit! We're up to issue #13, quick, invent some bullshit cataclysm we can use to print a few more #1's!!". And "I don't think that 15 variant covers is enough, let's release a gold foil edition that's had a silver foil overlay and a couple of holograms stuck on. And make the 'Retailer Incentive' cover invisible or something."
This has turned into a bit of a rant, sorry. And it surely can't be long now before the special logic kicks in and $3.99 becomes £3.99 :(. Which might run to 20 pages if your lucky.
And Marvel??? X-Men vs Avengers??? Yet another retelling of Amazing Fantasy #15 for the latest Spider-Man anniversary? Space Punisher??
I really, really wish I was imaging some of this rubbish...
In news that makes me slightly happy:
There's a reprint of the old Green Lantern/Green Arrow stories out now.
Sorry again to go on so long.

Yup, I hear you. I really felt they were on the cusp of something really cool with Batman RIP, Batman and Robin, and The Return Of Bruce Wayne…....then they go fuck it up again

The Walking Dead series has me feeling like a little kid again. I'm counting down the days till the next issue drops. #100 hit me in the gut. I was warped for days and I don't know anyone else that's into it, so I couldn't debrief. Sometimes, I need a nerd therapist.
