Looking forward to this.
Do you expect this to initially bleed the indigo dye?

Great, thanks @Nkwkfld.
Good feedback - I’ve sent them a message and some pics and will probably give them a shot.
I’ll post back when they’re done.
Cheers -

@Nkwkfld
Looks like a nice job on those Whites.
Browsing Yorkshiresoles website, it looks like they’ve got a good selection and do some nice work. How was the service/ quality of the work? Any feedback?
I’ve got a pair of Whites Smokejumpers that are in need of some TLC and am looking for a good UK based cobbler.
Thanks in advance -
RE: Bread - What are you baking today…..posted in Hobbies and Pastimes
This afternoon’s bake; 60/40 white & Cotswold Crunch, done as a one day bake (Forkish “Saturday white bread” schedule).
The sandwich tin loaf was still proved in a banneton, and then moved to a solid iron 2lb loaf tin, then covered with foil instead of transferring to a dutch oven. For anyone interested, the loaf tin was from Netherton Foundry:

Looks amazing! @Chap
Thanks for the kind words and tip; I'll try and get hold of some semolina and give it a try.@neph93 I'm always pretty delicate when tipping out the bannetons, but will give your technique a try next time. As for the Country Blonde, I figured I'd try to perfect the pre-ferments and basic recipes first before moving to the advanced recipes, but as you say, the schedule for a levain bake is pretty convenient (much like the Poolish)
You guys have set such a high standard!!
Thanks for the advice. -

Cheers Giles.
Yes, I usually bulk buy white, 8 Grain & Cotswold Crunch from Matthews and then I use some random Rye flour (only about 100-150g per 1kg bake) bought from a local supermarket. -

Hi all,
Great inspiring bakes!
I’ve been using the Forkish method for a while now and have been getting great results using bannetons and a dutch oven as recommended.
Weekly bakes have settled on firm family favourites like a 50% white poolish with grain & rye flour and a simple “Saturday white” but with about 40% malted grain added (“Cotswold Crunch”)One bake schedule I’ve struggled with it the overnight proofing in the fridge as the dough sticks to the bannetons. I’m pretty sure the bannetons are well ‘seasoned’ and I add extra flour each time I use them. Any additional advice/ tips?

Thanks in advance

RE: Repairs & Modificationsposted in The Resource Centre
Hi,
I'm after some advice…
I regularly wear through the left knee of all my jeans well before the right knee and well before anything else serious needs repairing. I usually send my jeans to the Denim Doc in Manchester (UK) who does a great job reinforcing the knee and then over-stitching. This works pretty well for most jeans, however my current jeans (Trophy 1607) are super-soft and the reinforcing material changes the way the jeans hang at the knee; it looks like I've got kneepads underneath!
I've unpicked the stitching and am thinking I might ask him to re-do the repair with a lot thinner reinforcing material. Before I do, can anyone suggest any other way to repair small holes in the knee and where could I get it done?Cheers,

RE: Show us your bootsposted in Footwear
After about two and a half years solid wear, it was time for a resole for my Whites SD.
I'd heard good things about Shoe Healer here in the UK, so I thought I'd give them a try; I opted for the Topy Granite sole.
Before:After:
I'm happy with results and should add that Shoe Healer were really easy to deal with and turned them round within a week.

RE: Watches - another OCD problemposted in Accessories
Not the same watch, but I've been wearing a Sinn 556A every day for the last year; at work and at home
It depends what you do, and how you look after it, but mine's definitely not had any special treatment and is holding up well:
The stainless steel case has a couple of light marks, but still looks clean and smart.
I work in the optics industry, so maybe I'm overly critical here; it's got a couple of very faint scratches across the sapphire glass which are only visible under glancing incidence light (ie you've got to look really hard to spot them.)
In the last month or so, I've noticed a tiny mark on the face that looks like the anti-reflection coating might be coming away (they coat the sapphire on the front and back faces of the glass), but again you've got to look pretty hard to spot this. (I seem to remember reading about this before I bought it too; maybe worth a bit of research if you think this might bother you)All in all its a pretty tough watch, looks good (imo) and is good to 1-2 secs a day (which I'm happy with)
Hope this helps -

Are these likely to be affected by the aspero cotton shortage situation?

RE: Iron Heart Products - What do you think we should make?posted in Future and Planned Products
Seems unlikely. As I recall, both the Great White and the heavy chambray white work shirt, the IHSH-58, didn't sell particularly well and Giles had to reduce prices on both of them to clear out the last of his stock. That's not an encouraging indicator for a new white work shirt.
I wasn't aware of that… thanks for replying.

Any plans to do a plain white, classic styled work shirt in the same vein as the great white (IHSH-36) or the TWSH-01?
Cheers,

RE: Random questions to which you seek an answerposted in The Resource Centre
I typically take a Medium in IH and get a good fit, but with a pretty fitted shoulder. (eg the IHSH-91)
I own a Gitman Vintage Oxford, also a Medium, but with a bit more room in the shoulder (maybe 0.5") and possibly in the chest too. It's also definitely an inch or so longer.
