You are unlikely to see a 30% drop in performance consistently. In fact on a consumer computer you may not even notice at all, however that is just a software sticking plaster over the Meltdown flaw.. Seems like a bugger of a problem so far. Especially for server based services and online games. See the graph they posted that shows CPU usage.

For sure, if you run a Datacenter using Intel CPUs and can afford it, you will be going after Intel for recompsense.

I saw a headline in the paper that one shop/supermarket is stocking them but I've not looked into it further. Thank you @UnTucked that would be…. 'eggcellent' if I cant get them.

Another thing I thought about on my long drive today besides imagining how cool Iron Heart 25oz XHS overalls would be: does anyone here every worry that because you don't regularly wash your jeans you've become noseblind to your own funk and you really fucking stink?

Taxes are coming up and the guy I normally use to do my taxes charges $125. He's a family friend and used to file me and my ex-wife's taxes jointly at about $150-175 if I recall correctly. For those of you in the US, who do you use for your taxes and what do you typically pay? H&R Block? I'm starting to think that $125 is kinda steep. Back when I was married there were a ton of deductions that we qualified for but now that i'm filing as single not so much.

IMO I’ve never heard any good feedback from HR block users

Re: U.S. taxes, I have a relatively simple situation (itemized deductions but that's about it) and have used TurboTax the last 10 years or so. Apparently they have a new option to have a live CPA review things before submission. I think my fees are only about $80 including e-File federal and state.
