Flanell shirt question, I'm looking for a flanell shirt in heavy weight and these colors (approx): http://www.jcrew.com/mens_feature/NewArrivals/shirts/PRDOVR~46897/46897.jsp

Have any of you guys shopped from jcrew before? Is the quality ok? Needless to say, if IH had the color combinations I'm after, I would shop here. I would rather pay a bit for a solid made-to-last shirt than some mass produced shirt that looks good before I wash it once and then looks terribly.

Seize the day and don't you cry.

I've shopped from J Crew a bit, their quality is 5 notches above regular high street, but 10 notches below Iron Heart. For casual wear items they are fine.

The thread around the top button hole on my SR's is coming loose.  Has this happened to anyone else?  Is it something I need to have fixed ASAP?  And can it be done by a regular sewing machine or do I need to send it to Self-Edge or Giles?  Thanks.

adam if its really unraveling then you would want it fixed asap. otherwise it can be left with not too much of a problem

depends how picky you want it repaired. if you want exactly the same as before then neither self edge or giles could do it as you will need a keyhole buttonholer machine. I am not sure where you are but ROY has one. if you just want stop to stop it from fraying then hand stitching tight "blanket stitch" around the hole would do the trick. google blanket stitch

Thanks jimmy.  The bottom corner of the button-hole has unraveled and is traveling toward the loop.  The other 3/4 is fine, but its getting worse each time they're buttoned.  They just started to break-in, its the seventh week, shame to have to soak 'em again so they can be fixed.

Would it be fine contacting him by email?

Googled blanket-stitch.  If I did it real tight would it hold long-term or does the button-holer make a difference? I don't have a problem sending them away if that's the best.  Thanks for the help!

I don't know Roy, I just know he has the machine. Not many private tailors has one as it's a pricy machine just to do one thing.

Doing blanket stitch would be just as strong if not stronger. Need to use nice and thick top stitch thread.
