The thread around the top button hole on my SR's is coming loose.  Has this happened to anyone else?  Is it something I need to have fixed ASAP?  And can it be done by a regular sewing machine or do I need to send it to Self-Edge or Giles?  Thanks.

adam if its really unraveling then you would want it fixed asap. otherwise it can be left with not too much of a problem

depends how picky you want it repaired. if you want exactly the same as before then neither self edge or giles could do it as you will need a keyhole buttonholer machine. I am not sure where you are but ROY has one. if you just want stop to stop it from fraying then hand stitching tight "blanket stitch" around the hole would do the trick. google blanket stitch

Thanks jimmy.  The bottom corner of the button-hole has unraveled and is traveling toward the loop.  The other 3/4 is fine, but its getting worse each time they're buttoned.  They just started to break-in, its the seventh week, shame to have to soak 'em again so they can be fixed.

Would it be fine contacting him by email?

Googled blanket-stitch.  If I did it real tight would it hold long-term or does the button-holer make a difference? I don't have a problem sending them away if that's the best.  Thanks for the help!

I don't know Roy, I just know he has the machine. Not many private tailors has one as it's a pricy machine just to do one thing.

Doing blanket stitch would be just as strong if not stronger. Need to use nice and thick top stitch thread.

I don't think Roy is in the repair business

I don't know Roy either.  Gonna do it myself, it'll mean more that way.  Thanks again.  I had no idea what a blanket stitch was before I asked.

Is this the sort of thing you're refering to? If it is I better get it fixed asap.

@ D97x7:  It's more like what's happening on the bottom of the button-hole in the picture (that's a sad picture  :(), with less fraying and more of the thread unraveling.  ASAP is right, gonna go buy some thread and a needle today or tomorrow.  Anyone know what size needle is best?  I'll look around…

D97 get that fixed or it will just keep fray away.

Adam any needle will do as long as it's easy to work with. Thread is more important.
